Compensation:
- Hourly Pay Range: $18.00 - $21.35

Position Summary & Responsibilities:
Regional Long-Term Care Ombudsman
Be part of a team who empowers people living in long-term care settings, aiding them in their right to have positive choice and control over their own lives.
The Long-Term Care Ombudsman Office has responsibility to provide Ombudsman services as required by statute as well as the Older American's Act. The Region 3 Regional Long-Term Care Ombudsman provides a high level of support to the residents of adult care homes in Johnson & Wyandotte counties. They also supervise volunteers who advocate for residents' rights. Together with the Volunteer Ombudsman, they serve to protect the quality of life and quality of care for Kansans who live in long-term care settings for their region.
Job Responsibilities:
- Educate residents, their family and facility staff about residents' rights, good care practices, and similar long-term services and supports resources.
- Ensure residents have regular and timely access to ombudsman services.
- Provide technical support for the development of resident and family councils.
- Advocate for changes to improve residents' quality of life and care.
- Conduct investigations and resolve complaints made by or on behalf of long-term care residents.
- Recruitment, training, and support of ombudsman volunteers.
- Assure accurate and timely documentation of activities.
- Complete LTCO training and certification; and continuing education.
- Read and interpret laws and regulations pertaining to nursing facilities and long-term care issues.
- Exhibit good oral and written communications skills.
- Exercise independent judgment and time management skills.
- Maintain confidentiality and perform job without conflict of interest.
- Provide services with respect for human dignity and the individuality of the residents, unrestricted by considerations of age, social or economic status, personal characteristics, or lifestyle choices.
- Conduct in a manner that will strengthen the statewide and national ombudsman network.
Minimum Qualifications
- The equivalent of three (3) years of full-time work experience with at least two years of aging, long-term care or related fields.
- At least one year in a consultative or supervisory capacity is desirable.
- Comparable experience may be substituted at the discretion of the SLTCO.
- Have a working knowledge of computer and cell phone operations including applications Microsoft Office and web database.
- Read and interpret laws and regulations pertaining to nursing facilities and long-term care issues.
- Exhibit good oral and written communications skills to legibly and accurately complete forms and maintain records.
- Exercise independent judgment and time management skills.
- Maintain confidentiality and perform job without conflict of interest.
- Must have access to internet that will support remote work from home requirements of the position.
- Must have a dedicated workspace that will support virtual work in a private and confidential manner.
- Must have the ability to day travel 60% or more to provide regular visits to adult care homes in the counties of Johnson & Wyandotte
- Must have and maintain a valid driver's license to drive a state provided fleet vehicle.

- An undergraduate degree from a four-year college or university
Kansas Tax Clearance Certificate: A valid Kansas Tax Clearance Certificate is a condition of employment for all employees of the State of Kansas.
