Associate Instructional Designer

The Position:

Associate instructional designers do the “in the weeds” work of creating core learning assets like curriculum modules, grading rubrics, mock interview scripts, capstone project requirements, synchronous instructional materials, and other deliverables to support our catalog of programs that drive our students into an expanding array of modern professions. Each asset you create will be used by thousands of learners to ultimately break into exciting new careers.

You should have demonstrated passionate about education and the possibilities of cutting-edge technology unlock. You should be naturally curious and love learning and mastering new skills. You should be excited about mastering the craft of instructional design and ultimately growing to mentor future associate instructional designers.

Within 1 month you will:

  • Begin collaborating with a talented and driven team of instructional designers who are passionate about building the best place for professional training in the 21st century.
  • Use our documentation to learn our tooling and infrastructure
  • Update existing assets like assessment rubrics and interview scripts to better measure student mastery of curriculum topics
  • Spend time getting to know your remote peers over video calls

Within 3 months you will:

  • Collaborate with product managers and other stakeholders to identify new program opportunities and high-level outcomes
  • Design learning experiences and draft content to achieve outcomes and learning objectives
  • Design and implement assessments to measure student mastery
  • Monitor and address feedback from students and educators
  • Improve mastery and satisfaction metrics for the program(s) you work on
  • Receive regular performance feedback from your manager and peers
  • Develop a career growth plan and goals with your manager

Within 12 months you will:

  • Launch new programs from scratch
  • Nurture existing programs to drive big improvements in retention and outcomes
  • Make progress through your career growth plan and goals with your manager
  • Invest in a culture of accountability by holding yourself and your peers to high standards
  • Meet your peers face-to-face at “Weekful”, our annual all-company retreat

Responsibilities

  • Design learning content and assessment materials for Thinkful programs
  • Manage subject matter experts to produce learning content on time and on budget
  • Review and provide feedback on learning content written by others
  • Monitor and address student and educator feedback on learning content
  • Use Thinkful’s custom learning platform to publish and manage content

Requirements

  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Proven ability to learn new domains quickly
  • Demonstrated compassion for students & educators
  • Detail-oriented
