Our client seeks a Full Stack Engineer focused on backend services to build reusable APIs and web components that power customer experiences in financial planning, investing, and retirement. The role will design and deliver scalable microservices, optimize performance, and champion CI/CD and testing practices within an agile team. You will contribute to engineering standards, mentor peers, and support platforms used across cash, health, education, and credit products.
We are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join a technology team supporting large-scale digital platforms in the financial services industry. This role is focused exclusively on backend services development, building and maintaining scalable, high-performance APIs that support customer-facing web and mobile applications used by millions.
As part of an agile, cross-functional team, you’ll contribute across the full development lifecycle—from design and development to deployment and ongoing optimization—while helping to advance engineering best practices and platform reliability.

Rate: $60.00 to $65.00/hr. w2

Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain Java/Spring-based backend APIs
- Build scalable, service-oriented and microservices-based applications
- Develop and consume RESTful APIs and JSON-based services
- Collaborate within an Agile (Scrum/Kanban) team environment
- Participate in CI/CD pipeline deployments using standard DevOps tooling
- Deploy and support containerized applications using Kubernetes
- Write and execute basic SQL queries for data access and troubleshooting
- Ensure high-quality code through unit testing and test-first development practices
- Contribute to system performance, scalability, and reliability improvements
- Share knowledge and promote strong engineering standards across the team
Experience Requirements:
- 6+ years of backend software development experience
- Strong hands-on experience with Java and Spring (Spring Boot preferred)
- Experience building and supporting API-driven backend services
- Working knowledge of SQL and relational database concepts
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated deployments
- Practical experience deploying applications to Kubernetes environments
- High-level understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or equivalent)
- Experience working in Agile development environments
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams
- Familiarity with backend frameworks including Spring Boot and ExpressJS (Node.js is a plus).
- Proficiency with relational and NoSQL databases, including schema design and data modeling.
- Experience working in Agile environments such as Scrum or Kanban.

- Ability to mentor junior engineers and promote strong engineering practices.
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent with a Computer Science Degree or a related technical field
