Wood River Health is now hiring a part-time (20-24 hours) Support Staff / Breastfeeding Peer Counselor for our WIC Program!

 

The WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) Support Staff / Breastfeeding Peer Counselor (BFPC) is responsible for accurately performing the clerical duties of the Program, along with educating and supporting women in their breastfeeding journey. Essential duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Performs all clerical tasks including phone calls, scheduling appointments, confirmations, data entry, and document scanning
  • Determines client eligibility based on income and program requirements
  • Completes intake measurements such as height, weight, and hemoglobin  
  • Issues food benefits for clients, ensuring accuracy
  • Attends trainings through RI Department of Health
  • Provides basic breastfeeding education and support to women before and after delivery
  • Required to work in both our Hope Valley and Westerly locations
  • Performs other duties as assigned to meet business needs

 

The ideal candidate will have:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Previous breastfeeding experience, required 
  • WIC experience or knowledge of the program, preferred
  • The ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing
  • The ability to establish rapport with individuals and small groups
