Work Schedule, Hours per week: Varies, some evening and weekend shifts, up to 12 hours per week
Opportunity for hybrid schedule: No
Starting Salary Range: $18.22-$23.31 and determined based on relevant years of work experience provided on application and resume.
Position Summary: Tutor students in various Mathematics courses taught in Johnson County Community College. Other responsibilities include referring students to appropriate resources, assisting students with computer software and calculator skills necessary for the courses, helping with problem solving skills required in Mathematics, mentoring new and peer tutors, working in outreach programs, and other duties as requested by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in mathematics, math education, or related field including at least 21 credit hours in mathematics at the Calculus 1 level and above
- At least 1 year of tutoring or teaching experience required.
- Must be familiar with graphing calculators.
Required Skills:
- Must be able to help with computer programs and online homework platforms.
- Good communication skills, including listening with understanding and patience is required.
- Ability to explain concepts and solve word problems in Mathematics, both orally and in written form in a one to one or small group setting.
- Ability to tutor Calculus 2 and above.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Tutoring at a community college.
- Ability to tutor Statistics.
Position details include but are not limited to:
- Tutor students through drop-in, by-appointment, semester-long tutoring, embedded, and/or group tutoring (online and/or in-person) in specific subjects or content and course-specific study skills deemed appropriate by the relevant supervisor; build rapport and supportive relationships with students.
- Assist with center-specific projects, including developing and maintaining physical and electronic center resources (i.e., textbooks, anatomical models, microscopes, calculators, and online guides), delivering content-specific workshops, and meeting with students through the Academic Integrity Remediation process.
- Refer students to appropriate resources within the larger Academic Resource Center and across campus based on expressed student needs.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records, adhering to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and keeping appropriate staff updated on student progress and problems.
- Assist in hiring and training new tutors as necessary and serve as a mentor to other center staff.
- Participate in mandatory center and campus training, including pedagogical training, maintaining content expertise, and other campus-wide training opportunities as appropriate.
- Assist in the daily activities of the center, cover the front desk when needed, ensure students are checked in/out, troubleshoot technical problems (including LMS, software, and hardware problems), and help to maintain a positive, clean, and organized center space.
- Use appropriate scheduling system to manage and maintain tutoring schedules.
- Model tutor expectations and reinforce best practices.
- Assist with planning and coordinating events and workshops related to tutoring subject areas.
