Job Description:
We have an exciting opportunity for a Trademark Practice Group Assistant at Eversheds Sutherland (US) LLP. We are searching for someone who wants to be a valued contributor and member of a talented and dynamic team of lawyers, paralegals and business professionals.
The Practice Group Assistant will assist Attorneys and Paralegal Specialists in all aspects of domestic and foreign trademark transactions to service our clients.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Billing responsibilities:
- Performs domestic and foreign trademark searching and clearance using Corsearch or Thomson searching databases.
- Prepares and e-files US trademark applications and maintain documents.
- Drafts and e-files TTAB documents for oppositions and cancellations.
Non-bill responsibilities:
- Send out reporting letters.
- Contacts clients to obtain required information and specimens for filing.
- Reviews trademark docket and sends reminders to clients and attorneys.
- Assists in management of foreign trademark prosecution and oppositions/cancellations.
- Communicates with trademark colleagues in Firm offices and in relationship firms in other countries concerning client trademark matters.
- Processes cease and desist letters.
- Assists in the training of junior trademark paralegal.
- Trains docketing team on Trademark docketing best practices.
- Performs other work-related duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Education:
- A high school diploma is required. A Bachelor’s degree or related field from an accredited college or university is preferred.
Experience:
- Five or more years of formal trademark secretary/paralegal experience is required. Experience working as a trademark secretary in a large law firm or corporate law department is required. Experience in multinational or global law firm a plus.
- Strong working knowledge of US and international trademark law and practice including filings under the Madrid Protocol; searching and clearing experience; familiarity with CPI docketing database or other comparable trademark docketing database. Experience with copyrights is a plus. Experience with the International Trademark Association (INTA) a plus.
Skills:
- Strong Microsoft Office capabilities required.
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with appropriate discretion.
- Excellent writing skills.
- Strong organizational skills; ability to handle and prioritize multiple projects and manage dockets and deadlines.
- Ability to anticipate problems and issues and exercise independent judgment for resolution.
- Ability to collaborate in an effective and professional manner with attorneys, clients, co-workers and administrators.
- Ability to exercise tact, courtesy and diplomacy in all interpersonal dealings.
- Ability to make sound and reasonable judgments and decisions.
This is a hybrid role and will require on-site presence 3 days per week. The salary ranges for this position vary depending on the geographic location and other factors such as experience, internal equity, market data, and job-related considerations. The range for this position is from $55,000 - $80,000, with offers contingent upon the various factors.
