Job Description:
Your team dynamics:
The Security Center QA Domains team is responsible for ensuring the quality and reliability of Genetec's flagship physical security platform. We test and validate the three pillars of Security Center: video surveillance, access control, and license plate recognition, in on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments.
We are looking for a Software Development Engineer (SDET) to join our Video Systems Test team. In this role, you will design and develop test automation solutions, improve our test infrastructure, and contribute to validating the performance, scalability, and reliability of our video systems. The ideal candidate has strong automation skills, enjoys tackling technical challenges, and thrives in a fast-paced and constantly evolving environment.
Why work at Genetec?
Recognized as one of Montreal's top employers since 2006, Genetec offers a collaborative and innovative work environment where employees can learn, grow, and make a real impact. In addition to stimulating work, you'll enjoy numerous benefits, including a free 24/7 gym, complimentary coffee and fruit, affordable on-site meals, free parking, and employee events throughout the year.
If you are ready to take the next step in your career, we would like to meet you.
Your day at a glance:
- Design, develop, and maintain comprehensive test automation frameworks (end-to-end, integration, user interface, and API) for the video management system.
- Implement performance, endurance (soak testing), and scalability tests using monitoring tools to validate the system's behavior under sustained and peak loads.
- Develop automation infrastructures for provisioning test environments, orchestration, multi-node simulation, and integration with CI/CD pipelines
- Analyze test failures, diagnose problems in distributed systems, and participate in root cause analyses to improve test reliability.
- Collaborating with development, quality assurance, and product management teams to define automation strategies and implement testing for new features and complex scenarios
- Document and track anomalies detected during automated testing, then collaborate with development teams to validate fixes.
- Supporting the Agile/Kanban delivery cycle by promoting faster validation cycles and continuous deployment
What makes you an excellent candidate:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or equivalent professional experience
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in software testing or test automation
- Proficiency in C#, .NET, SQL and PowerShell
- Solid understanding of programming and test automation frameworks
- Proven expertise in performance, load, stress and scalability testing
- In-depth knowledge of video systems, streaming technologies, codecs (H.264, H.265) and network protocols (RTSP, HTTP, IP)
- Good understanding of backend architectures, databases, and distributed systems
- Experience with Windows and Linux environments, test environment orchestration, and CI/CD pipelines
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Fluency in French and English, both spoken and written (this position requires interaction with our international colleagues and clients)
An advantage if you have:
- Experience with test automation tools and frameworks (Selenium, Playwright, TestNG, NUnit)
- Experience with API testing tools (Bruno, Postman or equivalent)
- Experience with performance monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana)
- Experience with containerization technologies and Kubernetes
- Experience with cloud services (Azure, AWS)
