**Job Description and Duties**

The CalSTRS Communications Division is seeking a motivated individual to work as an Analyst III in the Content and Web Management unit.

The Communications Division is a team of information officers, graphic designers, multimedia specialists, web and social content producers, and administrative professionals. The division develops and implements communication strategies to ensure CalSTRS members and beneficiaries receive the information they need to understand their benefits and enjoy a secure retirement. Communications manages and creates content for the following channels and tactics: digital signage, writing and editing, graphic design, internal and external communications, media relations, publications, building signage, email newsletters, streaming/video services, social media and website content. Communications also assesses the reputation and organizational risk environment where CalSTRS has potential exposure to develop effective mitigation strategies and action plans. As part of the Public Affairs Branch, the division collaborates with External Affairs, Governmental Relations and other divisions to tell CalSTRS' story to stakeholders and the public.

The Content and Web Management unit develops, manages, organizes and maintains current versions of written content for various CalSTRS audiences in partnership with other Communications units and the External Affairs and Governmental Relations divisions. The unit coordinates the development and distribution of email to various audiences using the GovDelivery system, providing back-up writing services to the other Communications units. They manage and monitor all social media channels for CalSTRS. They administer, update and oversee governance of CalSTRS.com design, content and navigation, and ensure accessibility compliance of CalSTRS.com.

Under general direction of the Content and Web Management Supervisor (Information Officer II, Supervisor), the Analyst III serves as the Social Media Strategy Specialist who is the lead for all department wide social media strategies, governance and performance analytics, and serves as the primary person responsible for posting, maintaining and managing all social media content. This position is responsible for a varied and complex assignments listed below in order to ensures CalSTRS' digital presence aligns with organizational goals, brand standards and accessibility requirements.

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills:

  • At least two years of experience communicating messages through various communications channels, including social media, websites and email.
  • At least two years of experience writing, editing and producing content, from social media, email, websites, news releases, video scripts to other content for an organization.
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills. Able to monitor and analyze social media performance metrics and provide actionable insights, regular reports and dashboards.
  • Excellent communication and active listening skills, including the ability to communicate effectively and accurately, in writing and verbally, with employees, members and beneficiaries.
  • Ability to apply time management skills used for efficient completion of projects, prioritize competing assignments and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team player and work collaboratively across teams, from inside Communications to other business areas.
  • Experience collaborating with visual and/or graphics teams to create digital and video content for website and social platforms.
  • Solves customer problems quickly and effectively, often by developing relationships with other business areas. 

Every 12 months, based on performance evaluation, employees may receive a 5% salary increase until they reach the maximum salary for the position.

In July 2025, the State of California implemented the Personal Leave Program 2025. This program reduces employees' monthly base pay in exchange for paid leave credits. This position is subject to PLP 2025 and will have a monthly base pay reduction of 3% in exchange for 5 hours of leave credits for the duration of the program. The salary ranges shown on this job posting do not reflect the reduced amounts.

Working Conditions

CalSTRS offers a hybrid approach including in-office and remote work solutions based on business needs.
All staff of CalSTRS are employees of the State of California and subject to California employment taxes and withholdings. Upon appointment, staff are required to provide a current California address to CalSTRS Human Resources to be used as a remote work location.

This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Applicants must be authorized to work in the US without the need for visa sponsorship by the start date of employment with CalSTRS.

**CalSTRS Personal Trading Program**

Investment Branch employees are required to participate in the CalSTRS Personal Trading Program which allows CalSTRS to monitor employees' personal trading transactions in order to reduce risks associated with insider trading, front running, and misusing material non-public information. Upon accepting a position within the Investment Branch, you will be required to disclose your personal broker account information and be required to utilize a personal broker from a designated list as provided by CalSTRS.

**Background Investigation**

Prior to employment with CalSTRS, a background investigation (BI) will be conducted. The BI consists of a _Personal History Statement_ and fingerprinting through the Department of Justice. The BI will check criminal and civil records and, if applicable, verify education and check driving records.
