Overview

This full-time position is designed for a candidate interested in gaining substantive exposure to the performing arts and arts administration.  The role offers the unique opportunity to take part in or even lead research projects, while receiving guidance and training to help shape their future career paths. The assistant will work closely with Professor Tesori, a visionary artist and Professor of Practice at Yale, who will serve as a mentor in the performing arts field.

  • Act as Associate Grad in the Practice: Build strong ties and relationships with departments and professional schools across Yale as well as forge new ones in New York City (NYC). Serve as a bridge for students between Yale as an academic institution and NYC as a hub for the performing arts industry. Connect students' artistry from their schoolwork to their emerging careers.

  • Teaching Assistant:Identify undergraduate students to mentor and support. Guide students to practice spaces and performances across campus and in NYC, including salons and talkbacks. Introduce students to librarians, fellow students and Deans.

  • Programming Development:Envision future Programming for ”Being in the Practice”, providing student support, and maintaining student records. Assist in and occasionally lead research projects related to the performing arts, focusing on both academic and practical aspects.

  • Administrative Support: Manage scheduling, organize meetings, and facilitate informal gatherings at Yale, Lincoln Center, and other institutions. This includes handling clerical duties essential to the functioning of a performer, such as setting schedules, and understanding the business of being a composer.

  • Event Coordination: Assist in organizing events and workshops that provide a substantive introduction to the theatrical and musical communities, along with their individual administrations and leaders.

  • Mentorship & Training: Receive direct mentorship from Professor Tesori to understand what it takes to enter and thrive in the arts. This includes forging relationships with key figures and institutions, like Julliard.

  • Liaison Duties: Serve as a liaison between Professor Tesori and various stakeholders, ensuring smooth communication and operations for both artistic and academic commitments. Bridge gap between academic environment and the practice itself, with NYC as a hub.

  • Community Engagement: Work to create and foster connections within the performing arts community at Yale and in the broader community, including NYC, enhancing the visibility and effectiveness of various initiatives.

Required Skills and Abilities

1. Bachelor's degree, preferably in the arts, humanities, or related fields. Graduation within the last two years.
2. Highly organized, detail-oriented, and proficient in managing multiple tasks. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
Preferred Skills and Abilities
1. Interest in music and the performing arts is preferred. A demonstrated interest in the arts, through coursework, internships, or extracurricular activities, will be considered favorably.
2. Previous administrative or clerical experience.

Principal Responsibilities

1. Manages special projects ranging from academic to financial from inception to completion, which requires quantitative analysis, independent research, and the proposal of resolutions or conclusions. Creates and envisions programmatic initiatives and communication strategies. 2. Designs and develops communications strategies for special projects. Develops and exercises a keen understanding of the multiple audiences and contributing University offices involved in a given project to ensure that individual communications are rolled out within a structure planned in advance and with appropriate communication among key stakeholders. 3. Envisions, creates and authors a wide variety of sensitive and high-level written materials. Serves as coordinator and executor for a range of internal and external committees. May participate in decisions regarding committee work. Advises panelists on precedents and prior actions. 4. Serves as Secretary for committee(s), manages informal and formal resolution processes and voluminous correspondence. 5. May supervise the work of project coordinator and administrative staff. 6. Serves as liaison to other departments on all communications. 7. Contributes to design, organization, and maintenance of department website. 8. May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor's Degree in a related field and four years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
