Full-time (100%) fixed term position through to June 2028 with FTE salary in the range $104,616 - $113,920 (HEW 7), plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%.

About This Opportunity
As the Principal Project Officer (TERN - Threatened Species Index), you will play a key role in coordinating nationally significant research infrastructure projects that support the conservation of Australia's biodiversity. Working within a collaborative and high performing team, you will lead the end to end delivery of complex projects, translating environmental data into meaningful insights that inform conservation, policy, and reporting outcomes. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to large scale environmental monitoring initiatives in a fast-paced and impact-driven environment.
Key responsibilities will include:

Coordinating all phases of project delivery, including planning, monitoring, and evaluation activities across project lifecycles.

Leading project specific research, analysis, and reporting to support evidence based conservation and decision making.

Providing project management expertise and advice to ensure timely, high quality delivery of outcomes.

Managing stakeholder engagement, communication activities, and reporting requirements across internal and external partners.
About You
You are an experienced and motivated project professional with a passion for environmental outcomes and the ability to thrive in a complex research environment.

Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline with at least 4 years subsequent relevant experience and/or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or training.

Demonstrated experience delivering projects within a complex, grant funded research or infrastructure setting.

Proven ability to analyse and synthesise environmental data to support reporting and decision-making.

Strong project planning and coordination skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.

Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, working effectively across research, government, and NGO contexts.

Sound problem solving and judgement, with the ability to provide clear and consistent advice.
