Job Description:

Overview

Make an Impact!

At McGraw Hill we create best-in-class, next-generation learning platforms that are used by millions of students and educators worldwide from kindergarten through graduate school. Our goal is to accelerate student success through intuitive and effective learning tools and content that maximize a teacher's time and a student's learning experience. We do all of this in a supportive, collaborative environment where you can grow your career in a way that fits into your life.

How can you make an impact?

McGraw Hill, the leading provider of digital and print educational resources, is looking for a Metadata Manager that designs and implements metadata strategies to optimize content discoverability, organization, and accessibility across MH platforms. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, the Metadata Manager ensures metadata standards align with industry best practices and support enterprise-wide content management goals. Additionally, the Metadata Manager plays a key role in maintaining metadata integrity, developing guidelines, and training content-related stakeholders on metadata implementation and usage.

This is a remote position open to applicants authorized to work for any employer within the United States.

What you will be doing:

  • Support and maintain metadata schemas, taxonomies, and ontologies to ensure consistent organization and discoverability of MH content across platforms.
  • Collaborate with product teams, content creators, and developers to implement metadata strategies that enhance user experience and support business objectives.
  • Train stakeholders, including authors and vendors, on metadata best practices and tools through live sessions, video tutorials, and documentation.
  • Conduct audits to ensure metadata accuracy, compliance with accessibility standards, and alignment with industry best practices.
  • Support the integration of metadata into MH's digital tools and workflows, working closely with TPMs and developers to ensure seamless functionality.
  • Stay informed on advancements in metadata standards, digital content management systems, and related technologies to implement innovative solutions that maintain MH's competitive edge.
  • Provide expertise to curriculum, platform, and content teams by creating metadata-driven solutions, product samplers, and POCs. Represent MH's metadata expertise at trade shows, conferences, and sales meetings as needed.

We're looking for someone with:

  • Educational background of a Bachelor's degree in a related field (or equivalent experience), with an advanced degree preferred - ideally an MA in Information Science, Metadata Management, or a related discipline.
  • 3-7 years of experience in metadata management, taxonomy development, or related fields, preferably within the education or publishing industry.
  • Hands-on experience with metadata tools and CMS platforms, with at least 5 years preferred, demonstrating the ability to manage and implement content strategies at scale.
  • Proficiency in training and enabling teams to adopt and implement metadata strategies, tools, and best practices effectively.
  • Experience with AI and LLMs, including at least 2 years (preferred) of designing prompts, evaluating outputs, and identifying bias using industry-standard large language models.
  • Technical literacy including a basic understanding of HTML tags and CSS properties, along with strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards and their practical application to metadata strategies, ensuring inclusive and compliant content practices.
  • Flexibility for travel of up to 25% of the time, as required by the role.
