The Impact You Will Have in This Role

As a Lead Software Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, developing, and modernizing software applications that support DTCC's Institutional Trade Processing (ITP) business. This hands-on engineering role focuses on building scalable, high-performance, cloud-ready solutions that power identity, entitlement, and reference data services across multiple ITP products and the DTCC Portal.

You will help drive DTCC's cloud and application modernization strategy by transforming legacy architectures into Java-based microservices, improving scalability, resiliency, and operational efficiency. Working across the full software development lifecycle, you will champion engineering excellence, automation, and quality while partnering with architects, product owners, and technology leaders to deliver business-critical solutions.

Your Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and support scalable applications using Java, Spring Boot, and microservices architectures.
  • Lead modernization initiatives, including migration of business logic from database stored procedures to Java-based services.
  • Develop cloud-native applications leveraging AWS and OpenShift.
  • Design and implement event-driven solutions using Kafka and related messaging technologies.
  • Build and support REST and SOAP APIs with a focus on performance, scalability, and reliability.
  • Design, develop, and maintain automated testing frameworks for APIs, microservices, and distributed systems.
  • Champion Test-Driven Development (TDD), automation-first engineering, and shift-left testing practices.
  • Integrate automated testing and quality controls into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Optimize application performance and database interactions across Oracle, DB2, and PostgreSQL environments.
  • Participate in architecture reviews, technical design discussions, and code reviews.
  • Troubleshoot production issues and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Mentor engineers and promote engineering best practices, software quality, and technical excellence.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent practical experience
  • 6-8 years of software engineering experience developing enterprise applications.

Talent Needed for Success

  • Strong expertise in Java/J2EE, Spring Framework, Spring Boot, REST APIs, and microservices architectures.
  • Hands-on experience developing cloud-native applications using AWS.
  • Experience with OpenShift Container Platform (OCP), containers, and cloud deployment architectures.
  • Strong experience with Oracle, DB2, or PostgreSQL databases, including complex database-driven applications.
  • Experience with Apache Kafka or Confluent Kafka and event-driven architectures.
  • Strong understanding of distributed systems, messaging patterns, and asynchronous processing.
  • Experience designing and implementing automated testing frameworks.
  • Hands-on experience with testing tools such as JUnit, Mockito, REST Assured, Selenium, Playwright, Cypress, or similar frameworks.
  • Experience integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and technical leadership skills.
  • Experience working in Agile delivery environments.
  • Exposure to Angular or React is a plus but not required.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with CI/CD, DevOps, and build automation practices.
  • Familiarity with Jenkins, CloudBees, Git, SonarQube, Maven, and related tooling.
  • Experience supporting large-scale enterprise systems and cloud modernization initiatives.
  • Experience with performance, load, resiliency, and API testing.
  • Java, AWS, or quality engineering certifications.
  • Financial services or other regulated industry experience.

The salary range is indicative for roles at the same level within DTCC across all US locations.
