Position Summary
Yuba College is seeking an equity-minded, dynamic, collaborative, and innovative employee to serve as the Instructional Associate — College Success.
Under the direction of an appropriate administrator or designee, the Instructional Associate provides instruction and assistance to students in basic skills, computer operations, instructional software, and basic academic skills. The position develops lesson plans and activities to implement curriculum and collaborates with faculty coordinators to manage day-to-day operations of the center, including supervision of student workers and scheduling of tutors and student appointments.
The position also coordinates with other programs and departments to provide educational support to students across the campus.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Present cross-curricular curriculum to groups of students in lab and classroom settings, including reading, grammar, vocabulary, math, writing, and supplemental instruction.
- Coordinate instructional materials and assignments with instructors and recommend goals and improvements as appropriate.
- Evaluate student work and needs and provide instructional support.
- Record student progress and attendance and prepare and maintain related records and reports.
- Operate instructional equipment, including computers, assistive technology, computer networks, educational software, copiers, printers, and audiovisual equipment.
- Coordinate hiring procedures and paperwork for student tutors and temporary tutors.
- Interview, hire, train, and supervise student front desk workers.
- Verify student workers' hours, serve as a backup time-card approver, and approve monthly payroll.
- Assist with training and scheduling for cross-curricular tutoring.
- Promote and explain center practices to students, faculty, staff, administrators, and the public.
- Prepare and update center job handbooks for tutors, front desk staff, and Instructional Associates.
- Assist with program review annual updates and assessments of Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) and Service Area Outcomes (SAOs).
- Collaborate with faculty coordinators to manage daily operations and supervise tutors.
- Schedule tutor work schedules and student appointments and manage traffic flow.
- Coordinate with Information Technology (IT) to upload current-semester courses to student tracking software.
- Complete tracking software semester setup, including course activation, creating and updating tutor accounts, and entering tutor work hours to enable scheduling.
- Collaborate with staff, programs, and departments to develop and present educational workshops.
- Participate in basic skills department norming activities.
- Explore grant opportunities and assist with writing grants for supplemental funding.
- Evaluate student work; assist with and provide instruction regarding assignments; administer, grade, and record assignments.
- Confer with instructors regarding student progress.
- Review and recommend purchases of instructional materials and prepare and distribute instructional materials.
- Troubleshoot and monitor computer problems in labs.
- Revise course descriptions as directed.
- Perform related duties as assigned.

Ability to
- Operate a computer terminal to enter data, maintain records, and generate reports while learning new software as needed to track daily center operations.

Required Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in language arts, mathematics, or a related field.
- Two years of full-time experience in an adult-level skills development program.
- Any combination equivalent to the education and experience requirements may be considered.
Physical Demands and Environment
Environment: Tutoring center, laboratory, office, and/or classroom environment.
Physical Abilities:
- Communicating in person and electronically to effectively exchange information and make presentations.
- Reading a variety of materials.
- Operating a computer keyboard and other modern office equipment.
- Sitting, standing, or walking for extended periods.
- Reaching overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally.
