Group Copy Supervisor (Pharma)

Job Overview:

The Group Copy Supervisor leads copy development across a brand’s multiple workstreams, ensuring strategic, creative, and scientifically accurate messaging across print, digital, video, and multichannel campaigns. This role is both a hands-on senior writer and an established creative team leader, owning ideation and copy execution with minimal supervision while maintaining high standards for craft, brand voice, and regulatory compliance.

Working in close partnership with art, strategy, account, science communications, and project management teams, the Group Copy Supervisor helps shape brand positioning, messaging strategy, and campaign rationale. They present concepts clearly and persuasively, build strong client relationships, anticipate creative or workflow challenges, and mentor junior and mid-level writers. The role also contributes to staffing, pitches, and business growth initiatives, and may represent creative leadership in reviews or meetings as needed.

Key Responsibilities, including but not limited to:

Creative Development & Project Oversight

  • Own ideation and copy execution across multiple brand workstreams or campaigns with minimal supervision.
  • Develop integrated concepts and copy in partnership with art directors and designers, ensuring strategic and visual cohesion across channels.
  • Translate complex scientific, clinical, and medical information into clear, compelling, audience-appropriate messaging for HCP, patient, and other healthcare audiences.
  • Contribute to brand positioning, messaging frameworks, campaign rationale, and narrative development.
  • Maintain high standards for tone, structure, accuracy, and brand consistency across all copy deliverables.
  • Fully monitor copy development across assigned projects, providing direction and hands-on writing or editing support as needed.
  • Anticipate creative, project, or regulatory roadblocks and provide practical guidance to keep work moving efficiently and on strategy.

Client Support & Creative Partnership

  • Participate actively in internal and client meetings, presenting copy, concepts and creative rationale clearly, confidently, and persuasively.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of the brand and its business objectives, target audiences, market dynamics, competitors, and regulatory nuances.
  • Build client trust through creative quality, responsiveness, sound judgment, and consistent value delivery.
  • Partner closely with account and strategy teams to ensure creative recommendations address client needs and elevate the brand.
  • Incorporate feedback thoughtfully while protecting the strategic and creative integrity of the work.

Leadership & People Development

  • Co-lead creative development with art partners and help establish clear direction for assigned teams.
  • Manage and mentor junior and mid-level copywriters, providing constructive feedback, coaching, and support for career and performance growth.
  • Review team members' work for conceptual strength, writing quality, scientific accuracy, brand consistency, and submission readiness.
  • Help plan workloads, identify resource needs, and contribute to staffing decisions within the creative department.
  • Model collaborative leadership, accountability, curiosity, inclusivity, and continuous improvement.
  • Represent or deputize for creative leadership in reviews or meetings when appropriate.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Workflow

  • Work closely with art, strategy, account, science communications, editorial, and project management teams to align creative execution with strategy, expectations, timing, and logistics.
  • Promote smooth workflow and integrated campaign execution across departments.
  • Own timelines in partnership with project management and ensure assigned teams complete and present work on time.
  • Maintain strong file accuracy, version control, annotation discipline, and MLR submission readiness.
  • Manage several projects and priorities simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail and timely follow-through.

Business Growth & Agency Contribution

  • Support pitches, organic growth opportunities, and new business initiatives by shaping messaging strategy, campaign concepts, and brand narrative.
  • Identify opportunities for CG Life to elevate clients' businesses through stronger creative ideas and communications.
  • Stay current on scientific developments, competitive activity, healthcare communications, creative trends, emerging technologies, and new tools, including AI and medical review platforms.
  • Contribute to a creative culture focused on high-quality work, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • 7-9 years of related copywriting experience in advertising, marketing, or healthcare communications, preferably within a pharmaceutical, life sciences, or AOR agency environment.
  • Experience working in the rare disease therapeutic space (particularly neuromuscular disease) is a plus
  • A portfolio demonstrating conceptual thinking, persuasive writing, and skilled execution across print, digital, video, social, and multichannel campaigns.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead copy development across multiple brand workstreams with limited supervision.
  • Ability to interpret complex science and technologies and translate key ideas into accurate, engaging communications that meet audience and business objectives.
  • Strong presentation skills and the ability to articulate and sell strategic creative ideas to internal teams and clients.
  • Experience managing, mentoring, and developing junior and mid-level copywriters.
  • Thorough understanding of agency and integrated creative collaboration processes.
  • Strong working knowledge of pharma copy requirements, including claims, references, annotation, FDA/OPDP expectations, and client medical/legal/regulatory review.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and team priorities with sound judgment and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat; adaptability to evolving creative, AI, and medical review tools.
  • Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Life Sciences, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

As required by law in this state, the estimated salary range for this position is $115,000 - $130,000 USD and represents our good faith estimate as to what our ideal candidates are likely to expect. We tailor our offers within the range based on organizational needs, internal equity, market data, geographic zone, and the selected candidate’s experience, education, industry knowledge, location, technical and communication skills, and other factors that may prove relevant during the selection process. At CG Life, it is not common for individuals to be hired at the higher end of the range, and compensation decisions depend on a variety of factors. This position is eligible to participate in a discretionary bonus program, subject to the rules governing the plan. CG Life offers a variety of benefits, including health benefits, 401K retirement with a generous company match and immediate vesting, and flexible time off.
