Job Description:
The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets is seeking a Graphic Designer 1 to work in their Public Information Office at the Great New York State Fair in Syracuse, NY. The Graphic Designer 1 completes a wide range of designs and graphics projects for promotional materials, signage, and websites for the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets. The selected candidate will conceptualize, design, and create graphics in print and digital media, consult with and advise department staff, and develop design and layout using computer software products. Specific duties include: developing, designing, producing, and updating original, creative graphic designs across a variety of media and updating and maintaining website content via web publishing software and content management systems.
The Graphic Designer 1 is a full-time, non-competitive position working 37.5 hours per week, Monday-Friday, at the New York State Fairgrounds at 581 State Fair Boulevard, Syracuse, NY. We provide a professional and comfortable working environment with ample free parking. Opportunities for telecommuting may be available in accordance with the agency’s Telecommuting Program Guidelines.
Salary:
The Graphic Designer 1 position is in the PEF Salary Grade (SG) 14. The starting salary of the PEF SG-14 is $ 59,204 /year.
The candidate appointed to the Graphic Designer 1, SG-14, will be eligible to participate in the New York State Performance Evaluation Program. Through this program, employees receive yearly performance evaluations. Performance advances are payable to PEF employees whose base annual salary is below the job rate for their current position and who were rated "Satisfactory" or its equivalent on their yearly performance evaluation. Performance advance payments are added to an employee's annual salary. Over time, yearly performance advances may lead to the SG-14 job rate salary of $ 74,058 / year!

Minimum Qualifications:
Non-Competitive Qualifications: Four years of experience in graphic design.
Substitutions: an associate degree may substitute for two years of specialized experience; bachelor's degree may substitute for four years of specialized experience; master's degree may substitute for five years of specialized experience; J.D. may substitute for six years of specialized experience.
