Job Description:

The Geospatial Analyst will perform imagery analysis, feature data extraction from satellite imagery, and digital mapping in a high-volume production environment. The role focuses on collecting and editing topographic features such as roads, rivers, and buildings while meeting strict quality and timeliness goals. This fully remote position supports geospatial projects for the U.S. government and requires strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with an all-remote team and to quickly come up to speed on project workflows.

Responsibilities

• Perform imagery analysis and extract geospatial features from satellite imagery, including roads, rivers, buildings, and other topographic elements.
• Create and edit digital maps and geospatial datasets in accordance with project specifications and quality standards.
• Work within a production environment, consistently completing assigned feature data extraction tasks within estimated hours and meeting or exceeding quality requirements.
• Meet or exceed established milestones and deadlines while maintaining high accuracy and attention to detail.
• Apply geospatial standards and methodologies such as TDS, MGCP, MUVD, and conflation when applicable to project work.
• Document and track the projects supported, including project identifiers, duration of support, and specific mapping responsibilities.
• Collaborate with remote team members, communicating clearly and proactively to resolve issues, share progress, and support project goals.
• Use GIS and geospatial tools (including ESRI software) to manage, analyze, and visualize spatial data.
• Maintain focus and productivity while working at a computer for extended periods, typically at least eight hours per day.
• Be available to work more than 40 hours per week when needed to meet critical deadlines and production targets.

Essential Skills

• Experience with imagery analysis and feature data extraction from satellite imagery in a production environment.
• Hands-on experience performing digital mapping and collecting topographic features such as roads, rivers, and buildings.
• Knowledge of geospatial and GIS concepts, including geography and spatial data management.
• Experience with geospatial standards or programs such as TDS, MGCP, MUVD, and conflation.
• Proficiency with GIS tools and software, including ESRI-based applications.
• Ability to consistently complete tasks within estimated hours while meeting defined quality standards and milestones.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively on an all-remote team and provide clear updates on progress and issues.
• Demonstrated ability to come up to speed quickly on new projects, workflows, and technical requirements.
• Self-motivated, assertive, and confident approach to work, with the ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
• Comfort with sitting at a desk and working at a computer for at least eight hours per day.
• Access to a personal computer and reliable internet connection to securely remote into assigned systems and work from home.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Geography, GIS, or a related field with multiple GIS courses, or equivalent hands-on GIS experience.
• Previous experience performing feature data extraction in support of U.S. government geospatial contracts.
• Experience supporting the Janus Geography contract or similar programs focused on feature data extraction.
• Proven track record of meeting or exceeding production milestones and quality requirements in a geospatial or GIS role.
• Ability to clearly describe prior project work, including project numbers, duration, and specific mapping responsibilities.
• Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate in a remote environment and contribute positively to team culture.
• High level of reliability and accountability in meeting deadlines and production commitments.

Work Environment

This role is fully remote, allowing you to work from home while supporting geospatial projects for the U.S. government. Team members use their personal computer and internet connection to securely access an assigned workstation. The work is primarily computer-based, involving extended periods of sitting while reviewing imagery and collecting topographic features. The environment is production-focused, with clear milestones, estimated hours, and quality standards that guide daily tasks. Collaboration occurs virtually through online communication tools, and occasional extended hours beyond a standard 40-hour workweek may be required to meet project deadlines. No specific dress code is enforced beyond maintaining a professional appearance for any video meetings as needed.

This is a Contract position based out of Huntsville, AL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $22.00/hr.
