Position Summary

The Faculty Trainer in the Center for Professional Learning (CPL) supports the ongoing professional development of full-time and adjunct faculty to enhance teaching effectiveness, student success, and academic innovation. Reporting to the Director of the CPL and working in coordination with the Staff Trainer, the Faculty Trainer is responsible for designing, delivering, and evaluating faculty development initiatives that reflect best practices in pedagogy, instructional technology, and equity-minded teaching.

This position plays a key role in fostering a culture of academic excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement that aligns with the community college's mission and commitment to inclusive, and evidence-based student-centered learning.

Additionally, the Faculty Trainer advances faculty's capacity to leverage data analytics, emerging instructional technologies, and culturally responsive practices that address the diverse needs of the student population.

Schedule Designation:
This role may offer the opportunity for a hybrid work arrangement as determined by the Director of the Center for Professional Learning.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop and facilitate workshops, learning communities, and one-on-one consultations that support faculty in areas such as instructional design, assessment strategies, inclusive teaching practices, and the effective use of educational technology.
  • Guide faculty in utilizing student learning data, course analytics, and institutional research to inform and enhance teaching practices.
  • Collaborate with the Director and Staff Trainer to assess faculty development needs through surveys, performance data, feedback, and institutional priorities.
  • Lead or support initiatives related to teaching excellence, course redesign, hybrid/online instruction, accelerated instruction for short-term courses, and the integration of high-impact practices.
  • Provide pedagogical and technical support to faculty in using learning management systems (LMS), video conferencing tools, and other instructional platforms.
  • Coordinate and deliver onboarding and mentoring programs for new and adjunct faculty.
  • Create and maintain professional learning materials, toolkits, and online resources.
  • Assess and evaluate faculty development programs through data collection, reflection, and feedback to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Stay current with trends in teaching and learning, adult education, and higher education policies.
  • Support faculty in adopting and critically evaluating emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence tools, adaptive learning platforms, and extended reality applications in teaching.
  • Support the communication and promotion of faculty development opportunities college-wide.
  • Serve on relevant committees and contribute to broader institutional development efforts.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated expertise in instructional design, teaching strategies, and faculty development.
  • Excellent facilitation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with educational technology tools, including LMS platforms and video conferencing software.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and academic leadership across disciplines.
  • Commitment to equity-minded pedagogy and the mission of community colleges.
  • Knowledge of course design frameworks such as Quality Matters or Universal Design for Learning (UDL).
  • Knowledge of culturally responsive teaching and research
  • Knowledge or skill in using data analytics and learning management system reports to inform pedagogical practices.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in education, instructional design, curriculum and instruction, or a related field.
  • At least five (5) years of experience in higher education, including teaching, faculty professional development, and designing and delivering professional learning in both in-person and online modalities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

  • The work is typically performed in an office setting

Work Hours:

  • Typically, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. May be required to work after-hours and/or weekends.
