Position Title: Donor Communications Writer & Editor
Location: Remote USA
Salary: $68,000 -$73,000
Status: Full-time, salaried, exempt
Reports to: Senior Editorial Manager
HOW YOU'LL CONTRIBUTE TO OUR MISSION:
- Delivering high-quality publications and reports that inspire action and help secure critical revenue for rainforest protection through clear, engaging, and persuasive written communications.
- Tailor communications to donor audiences and channels through compelling, accurate, and mission-aligned storytelling.
- Transform complex conservation science, project updates, and technical information into engaging, accessible narratives that inspire donors and effectively communicate Rainforest Trust's impact.
- Collaborate across teams and manage workflow to ensure communications reflect organizational priorities and maximize impact.
- Improving efficiency and publication workflows to ensure timely, consistent, and effective delivery of materials.
- Protect accuracy and editorial integrity to uphold Rainforest Trust's trusted and credible brand.
TO SUCCEED IN THIS ROLE, WE'RE HOPING YOU'LL HAVE:
- The ability to tailor messaging, tone, depth, supporting evidence, and calls to action for mid-level, major, and principal-level donors.
- Exceptional writing and editing skills, including structure, clarity, flow, tone, consistency, and accuracy.
- Demonstrated experience producing substantive long-form publications and donor-facing materials, such as annual reports, impact reports, stewardship communications, newsletters, campaign materials, and direct mail.
- Experience writing impact reports, stewardship, cultivation, campaign, newsletter, and direct-mail content.
- Ability to convey urgency, scale, credibility, partnership, lasting impact, and the role of philanthropy through compelling donor communications.
- Demonstrated experience translating conservation science, project strategies, financial information, monitoring results, and technical reports into accessible, engaging communications.
- Strong storytelling and editorial judgment to identify the most compelling donor-relevant stories and insights within complex source material.
- Research and synthesis skills using proposals, reports, monitoring data, budgets, and scientific information.
- Sound judgment in distinguishing future goals and intended outcomes from documented progress and achieved results.
- Attention to detail and rigorous fact-checking of data, quotes, outcomes, activities, and donor-support claims.
- Editorial judgment and confidence to recommend stronger messaging, story angles, organization, and content structure.
- Experience integrating copy with design, data visualization, photography, graphics, and publication production.
- Exceptional organizational skills to manage multiple publications, deadlines, dependencies, and review cycles.
- Ability to establish priorities in partnership with the Senior Editorial Manager and respond effectively to changing organizational needs.
- Receptiveness to feedback and the ability to revise complex materials through multiple review stages while balancing diverse stakeholder input.
- Demonstrated ability to build strong cross-functional partnerships and collaborate effectively with Philanthropy, Conservation, Finance, Marketing & Communications, and organizational leadership.

ANTICIPATED SALARY
The salary range for this position is $68,000 - $73,000 commensurate with experience. This base compensation range represents the anticipated low and high range of wages for this position. Salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as the candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role.
