Position Summary:
The Director of Communications manages the execution of media relations, content, and internal communications initiatives, ensuring consistent delivery of communications activities in support of organizational priorities. Reporting to the Vice President of Marketing and Communications, this role supports major initiatives by coordinating complex communications projects across stakeholders and ensuring deliverables align with organizational priorities. The Director oversees the strategic storytelling calendar, operational workflows, and content development, providing guidance and direction to the team. This role requires strong project management and operational skills, with an emphasis on coordinating work across teams and keeping initiatives on track. Effective communication and relationship-building skills are essential to translate organizational goals into clear, consistent messaging.
Essential Duties:
- Coordinate and implement content across earned, owned, and shared channels (both online and offline) in alignment with approved strategies.
- Execute media relations activities in alignment with organizational goals and messaging.\Manage internal communications execution to ensure staff receive timely, accurate information.
- Draft and coordinate external communications materials, including speeches, talking points, and briefings, ensuring consistency with organizational messaging.
- Oversee the editorial calendar, ensuring timely execution of campaigns and initiatives.
- Provide supervisory oversight and operational guidance to the Content & Internal Communications Managers.
- Partner with the Director of Digital Strategy and the Vice President to support day-to-day communications operations, workflows, and coordination across channels.
- Manage project timelines, deliverables, and coordination for major communications initiatives.
- Support VP during crises by coordinating materials and ensuring messaging consistency.
- Collaborate cross-departmentally with the digital marketing team to align communications and operational processes.
- Track communications, activities, and outcomes, and share findings with leadership to inform ongoing improvements.
- Mentor and support the professional development of communications team members.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or related field.
- 7+ years of experience in communications
Key Competencies:
- Proven leadership and project management skills.
- Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation skills.
- Experience managing editorial calendars and multi-channel campaigns.
- Ability to track communications metrics and report on effectiveness.
- High standards for quality and attention to detail
