Job Description:

Overview

MKTG Sports + Entertainment is looking for a Director of Creative Strategy to bring ideas to life at the intersection of sports, culture, and brand storytelling. You are equal parts creative thinker and strategic communicator - a writer who can create bold narratives, complex insights, and shape campaigns that resonate across audiences and platforms.

We are looking for someone who is not just an experienced writer but a natural researcher, knowledgeable about culture, and gets excited by organizing data to create a compelling story. You must be a credible C-level presenter in new business pursuits and have a writing ability that allows you to build impactful internal decks and global brand campaigns. We prefer agency experience. You will focus on client sponsorship in the sports space; therefore, we value sports experience and passion!

About You

We are looking for candidates with 8+ years of experience in creative strategy within sports, entertainment, or culturally motivated brand environments. You understand the power of partnerships, fandom, and cultural moments - and how brands can authentically show up within them.

You are:

  • Self-Directed - You excel in fast-paced, ambiguous environments and can independently build strategic frameworks, priorities, and solutions rooted in sports and entertainment insights.

  • A Natural Leader - You have led teams within agencies, sports organizations, entertainment properties, or rights-holder environments. You excel at collaboration and developing the next generation of strategic thinkers.

  • Culturally Aware - You live at the intersection of sports, entertainment, culture, and creativity. You understand fan behavior, athlete influence, league dynamics, entertainment IP, and how brands can tap into these worlds. Sports experience or deep passion is strongly preferred.

  • A Strategic Communicator - You connect insights to strategy, and present complex ideas in ways that inspire. You are a confident writer, storyteller, and C‑level presenter with the ability to sell big thinking across sponsorship, partnership, and creative territories.

  • Curious - You energize yourself by uncovering insights, read cultural shifts, understand fan ecosystems, research trends, and turn data into compelling narrative structures.

Responsibilities

Sponsorship & Partnership Strategy

  • Lead the development of sponsorship and partnership strategies for clients investing in sports and entertainment - helping them maximize relationships with leagues, teams, athletes, entertainment properties, and media partners.

  • Translate sponsorship assets and fan insights into creative platforms, activation concepts, and integrated campaigns that come to life across social, digital, broadcast, experiential, and IRL moments.

  • Build communication frameworks and activation roadmaps that anchor brand involvement in sports and entertainment culture authentically and measurably.

Creative Strategy & Brand Storytelling

  • Shape brand voice, tone, and creative application frameworks for campaigns that naturally integrate into sports culture and entertainment ecosystems.

  • Partner with creative, social, and experiential teams to ensure ideas scale across touchpoints and remain anchored in cultural relevance and fan behavior.

New Business & Expertise

  • Lead high-profile new business pursuits, developing compelling storytelling and C‑suite presentations that win pitches and differentiate MKTG Sports + Entertainment.

  • Build quarterly trend reports focused on sports, entertainment, fandom, athlete influence, event culture, and category-specific insights.

  • Advise on how proprietary research, audience data, and cultural studies can be used to strengthen recommendations and agency POV.

Team & Operational Leadership

  • Mentor a growing team of creative strategists while partnering with creative, social, analytics, and consulting teams.

  • Oversee key department operations, including revenue tracking, team resourcing, workflow management, and budget oversight.

  • Be the primary bridge to the analytics team, applying fan data, sponsorship measurement, and cultural insights to guide strategic decisions and client deliverables.

  • Help define how research and insights can uniquely position the agency within the competitive sports and entertainment landscape.

The Perks

Not only will you join a multi-award-winning Agency with great culture, but you will also have the unique opportunity to collaborate with colleagues from our other offices across the globe. There is a whole heap of benefits that come with the role- a flexible holiday package starting at 20 days, corporate discounts, commuter benefits, cell phone reimbursement and much more. Our benefit plans have your total well-being in mind, and we offer a list you can choose from to suit your needs.
