This is a unique opportunity to influence organisation-wide engagement practice, support innovative projects, and contribute to the development of systems, tools and resources that enhance the value created with and for our community.

  • Undertake research, analyse insights and identify best-practice approaches to community engagement.

  • Build strong relationships across Council to embed the Community Engagement Policy and other key organisational priorities.

  • Engage with a diverse range of internal community engagement supporters to support positive community outcomes.

Why Join Team Melbourne?

Located on the traditional lands of the Bunurong Boon Wurrung and Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung peoples of the Kulin Nation, Melbourne is globally recognised as one of the most liveable, diverse and dynamic cities.

At the heart of it all is the City of Melbourne—a passionate, purpose-driven organisation where your work truly matters. As part of Team Melbourne, you’ll help deliver what’s most important to the people who live, work, study, visit and invest in our great city.

We’re proud champions of diversity, committed to continuous improvement, and driven by a shared vision for a vibrant and sustainable future.

This is more than just a role—it’s your chance to make a real impact, contribute to something bigger, and shape Melbourne’s future alongside a collaborative and forward-thinking team.

About You

You are passionate about community outcomes and thrive in environments where collaboration, inclusion and continuous improvement drive success. You enjoy working across diverse stakeholder groups and can translate insights into practical solutions that create meaningful impact.

You may also be:

  • A skilled relationship builder who can establish trust and influence stakeholders at all levels.

  • An analytical thinker who can interpret research, identify trends and apply insights to improve outcomes.

  • A confident communicator with strong written skills and the ability to prepare quality reports, presentations and briefing materials.

  • Adaptable, curious and motivated by continuous improvement and positive community impact.

What Your Experience Might Look Like: Key Selection Criteria

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or demonstrated experience in community engagement, community development, public policy or a related discipline.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of community engagement principles, methodologies and best-practice approaches.

  • Experience working with diverse communities, including culturally and linguistically diverse communities, First Nations peoples, young people, LGBTIQA+ communities and people with disability.

  • Excellent relationship management skills, including the ability to build collaborative relationships and work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.

  • Demonstrated experience in project management.

  • Demonstrated research, analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to synthesise information and insights and provide advice to support community engagement outcomes and informed decision-making.

  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to the development and continuous improvement of community engagement resources, tools, processes and practices.

Benefits of Working with Us

  • Attractive remuneration and benefits: Excellent pay package with a range of exciting benefits. Flexible working, study assistance and other great corporate discounts.

  • Excellent leave entitlements: Enjoy up to 20 weeks of fully paid parental leave for primary carers, in addition to government-funded parental leave, with no waiting period to access. Part-time equivalents are also available for added flexibility.

  • Career progression: Career development support and opportunities to learn new skills within a creative and exciting environment.

  • Work-life balance and hybrid working: We support flexible hours, alternative work arrangements, such as accrued days off (ADOs), and hybrid work-from-home options.
