Job Description:

The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is seeking a Clinical Nuclear Pharmacist to join the Nuclear Medicine team within the Division of Diagnostic Imaging. The Clinical Nuclear Pharmacist plays a critical role in delivering radiopharmaceutical services that support both diagnostic and therapeutic patient care across a complex oncology environment. The Nuclear Medicine program integrates advanced imaging, theranostics, and research to enhance patient outcomes and advance cancer treatment.

UT MD Anderson is a leading institution focused on cancer care, research, education, and prevention. The Clinical Nuclear Pharmacist collaborates across multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe and effective use of radiopharmaceuticals while contributing to clinical innovation, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement. The Clinical Nuclear Pharmacist role supports both standard-of-care and investigational programs that align with the organization's mission to eliminate cancer.

The ideal candidate will hold a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD), possess or be eligible for Texas pharmacist licensure, and have or be working toward Board Certification in Nuclear Pharmacy. Experience supporting both standard-of-care and investigational theranostic programs, including coordination of procurement, preparation, documentation, and compliance, is essential, along with Authorized User status and demonstrated collaboration in clinical and research settings.

The typical work schedule:

Monday-Friday, 5:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. (hours of operation subject to change based on patient care and operational needs). Work schedule: Rotating shifts within department operating hours; weekend, holiday, and on-call coverage may be required based on operational and patient care needs.

Responsibilities

Clinical nuclear pharmacy practice

• Verify, prepare, compound, dispense, and release radiopharmaceuticals for diagnostic and therapeutic use
• Review orders for indication, dose, route, timing, contraindications, interactions, and duplication
• Ensure compliance with USP , USP , NRC, Texas State Board of Pharmacy, and FDA requirements
• Manage inventory, procurement, storage, security, and expiration monitoring of radiopharmaceuticals
• Maintain accurate documentation for dispensing, QA, investigational products, billing, and patient charges
• Provide clinical consultation on radiopharmaceutical use, dosing, sequencing, and adverse event management
• Evaluate patient-specific factors to optimize therapy and outcomes
• Monitor treatment response, toxicities, and laboratory parameters

Research & Investigational Support

• Participate in protocol review, feasibility assessments, and implementation planning
• Support IND applications, investigator-initiated trials, and regulatory submissions
• Contribute to study design, data collection, analysis, publications, and presentations
• Implement investigational and novel radiopharmaceutical workflows and procedures
• Collaborate with sponsors, research office, and clinical teams for study execution

Collaboration & Multidisciplinary Care

• Partner with physicians, nurses, technologists, physicists, and safety personnel
• Serve as a resource for patients, caregivers, and healthcare providers
• Participate in multidisciplinary care planning and case discussions
• Support theranostic programs and treatment protocol development

Quality, Compliance & Operations

• Ensure adherence to radiation safety, hazardous materials, and security standards
• Conduct medication-use evaluations, quality improvement, and outcomes assessments
• Develop and maintain SOPs, guidelines, and best practices
• Support radiopharmaceutical production, QA, QC, and process optimization
• Maintain operational readiness for weekend, holiday, and on-call coverage

Education & Professional Engagement

• Educate trainees, residents, students, and healthcare staff on nuclear pharmacy practices
• Represent UT MD Anderson through publications, presentations, and professional organizations

EDUCATION

  • Required: Bachelor's Degree Pharmacy.
  • Preferred: PharmD.

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Required: 2 years Experience as a Nuclear Pharmacist.
  • Preferred: 5 years As a Nuclear Pharmacist to include one year of experience with cGMP regulations for the manufacturing of PET (positron emission tomography) radiopharmaceuticals.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Required: RPH - Registered Pharmacist Current license to practice pharmacy in the State of Texas by the Texas State Board of Pharmacy. within 90 Days
  • Preferred: BCNP - Board Cert Nuclear Pharmacy Upon Hire
