About the role
The City Economy Coordinator sits within the Economic Development, International and Investment branch and offers an exciting opportunity to support the delivery of business grant programs and broader economic development initiatives that contribute to Melbourne's economic growth and business development priorities. City Economy Coordinator
A key focus of this role will be supporting the coordination and delivery of projects and programs aligned with the Melbourne Advantage: Economic Development Strategy 2030 and Council Plan 2025-2029. This includes, but is not limited to, business grants, support for underrepresented entrepreneurs, initiatives across key experience economy sectors, voluntary co-investment pilots, social impact programs, and the provision of economic insights.
Working closely with the Manager City Economy and broader branch, you'll support initiatives that strengthen Melbourne's business ecosystem and help promote, facilitate and grow business activity across the municipality. The broader portfolio may also include startups and innovation, emerging technology, retail, visitor economy, social impact and other economic development initiatives.
A little more about the role
- Coordinate the delivery of economic development projects and programs from planning through to implementation and evaluation
- Support the coordination and delivery of business grant programs, including program administration, stakeholder engagement, monitoring and reporting
- Build and maintain effective relationships with businesses, industry, government, business associations, universities and internal City of Melbourne stakeholders
- Prepare reports, briefing papers, presentations and project updates for senior stakeholders
- Support program communications, promotion, contract administration and other activities required for successful project delivery.

About you
You are a collaborative and proactive professional with experience in economic development and grant or funding programs. You understand how grant programs can support businesses and broader economic development outcomes and are comfortable coordinating multiple activities, stakeholders and deadlines.
You'll bring strong stakeholder engagement skills, sound judgement and excellent written communication, with the ability to work confidently across a fast-paced and varied portfolio.
What your experience might look like
- Experience in economic development, business development or a closely related field
- Experience coordinating projects or programs from planning through to delivery, monitoring and reporting
- Experience supporting or delivering grant, funding or similar business support programs
- Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills across business, government and community stakeholders
- Excellent written communication skills, including reports, briefing papers and presentations
- Strong organisation and attention to detail, with the ability to manage competing priorities
