Job Summary

Staff Chaplain - 24hr Rotating - BWH Spiritual Care Services

Availability for Overnight On-Call and Weekend Shifts Required.
This position will cover both Brigham and Women's Hospital and Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital.


Responsible for providing spiritual care to patients, families, visitors, and staff. Patients are seen at the bedside or in outpatient settings as assigned. Involved in all aspects of care, including but not limited to team meetings, family meetings, and goal discussions. Staff support is provided through 1:1 encounters and group gatherings in the units and other locations as needed. Also charged with developing and leading hospital-wide and community faith-specific and interfaith services. Work as team members in accordance with the department's mission and vision statements.

Essential Functions:

- Counsel individuals or groups concerning their spiritual, emotional, or personal needs.
- Share information about religious issues by writing articles, giving speeches, or teaching.
- Respond to requests for assistance during emergencies or crises.
- Visit people in homes, hospitals, or prisons to provide them with comfort and support.
- Administer religious rites or ordinances.


 

Qualifications

Education
Bachelor's Degree Related Field of Study required, and Graduate Diploma Related Field of Study preferred

Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree?
No

Licenses and Credentials

  • Four or more units of Clinical Pastoral Education from an accredited training program, ACPE preferred.

  • Preference for candidates who are board certified chaplains with APC, NAJC, or NACC.


Experience

  • Experience in a hospital/healthcare setting or relevant spiritual, ministry, pastoral, congregational or other experience 2-3 years required.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of various religious practices, health care ethics, behavioral health, trauma informed care, crisis response, and grief and bereavement counseling techniques with patients and families

  • Ability to work independently and excellent organizational skills

  • Proficient at documenting encounters in a patient’s electronic medical records and using Microsoft Suite Programming

  • Proficient at multitasking and have a high level of problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent listening and verbal communication skills.
