Kids in Need of Defense (KIND), founded in October 2008 by Microsoft and cofounder Angelina Jolie and headquartered in Washington, DC, is a leading nonprofit dedicated to ensuring that unaccompanied and separated children in the U.S. and abroad have access to legal representation and holistic support. KIND's mission is to protect the rights and well-being of these vulnerable children by mobilizing pro bono legal services, psychosocial care, and advocacy. Since its inception, it has assisted tens of thousands of children and trained over 17,000 attorneys through a broad network of law firms, corporations, NGOs, and law schools. Spanning 16 U.S. offices and extending services in Mexico, Central America, and Europe, KIND combines legal representation with mental health support, educational advocacy, and safe reintegration programs, including trauma-informed care for children returning to Guatemala and Honduras.
