The BBC South West weather team provides up to date and detailed forecasts for BBC Local Radio, regional TV and digital platforms for regions across England but primarily for the West and South West. Delivering live and pre-recorded content our weather presenters appear on-air several times a day, seven days a week starting with the news bulletins during BBC Breakfast. They also create engaging content for our social media and online platforms reporting on big weather events. We are looking for someone to join the team in a part time capacity.
WHY JOIN THE TEAM
This role requires someone who is at home in front of a camera and microphone. You’d be joining a hard working team of meteorologists who are passionate about what they do. You’d be working in Plymouth with an experienced team of journalists serving audiences across the West and South West, telling the weather story whether that’s snow on Dartmoor, a drought in Cornwall or flooding in Wiltshire. We are looking for someone who’s passionate about everything to do with the weather, not just the forecasting.

- Recording or presenting TV forecasts for multiple regions
- Working with online and social media teams to drive digital content around weather events
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- A good understanding of the theory and science of weather
- Good knowledge of broadcast and computer based technology
- Experience of presenting for both TV and radio, on location and in the studio
- Able to work to tight deadlines with minimum supervision along with experience of working across multiple platforms (TV, radio and digital)
- A good understanding of climate change and the impacts for local audiences
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
- A science based degree
- Experience of weather forecasting
- A good understanding of the BBC Local audience and how to present the weather in an engaging and interesting way for the greatest impact
If you can bring some of these skills and experience, along with transferable strengths, we’d love to hear from you and encourage you to apply.
