About the Role
Title: VP, Legal / General Counsel
Location: Remote (United States)
Department: Legal and Compliance
Job Description:
About the role
This is a rare opportunity to build a legal function from the ground up at a high-growth, category-defining company. As our first in-house legal hire, you’ll be a strategic partner to the executive team—shaping how we operate, grow, and protect the business. You’ll own everything from commercial contracts and healthcare compliance to corporate governance and employment matters, and you’ll help set the legal and ethical foundation for a company with real ambitions.
What you’ll do
- Commercial & Sales Support: Own end-to-end negotiation of complex enterprise agreements—including MSAs, BAAs, DPAs, and security addenda—with large health systems and pharmacy organizations; build scalable contract templates to enable a fast-moving GTM team; navigate procurement processes at large institutions without sacrificing deal velocity; advise on deal structure, risk allocation, and escalation paths
- Healthcare Regulatory & Compliance: Serve as the company’s legal resource on HIPAA, BAAs, data privacy, and related healthcare regulations; advise the company on how legal and regulatory requirements impact our platform, customer relationships, and contracting; partner with Security, Compliance, Product, and Engineering to support adherence to applicable compliance standards; monitor the evolving healthcare regulatory landscape and proactively identify legal and regulatory risks; and provide counsel on issues involving liability, breach response, reporting obligations, and regulatory inquiries.
- Corporate Governance & Fundraising: Manage ongoing corporate governance and board-related legal matters; support future fundraising rounds including coordination with outside counsel on financing, cap table, and investor agreements; manage entity-level legal hygiene and corporate records
- Employment & People Ops: Partner with People/HR on employment agreements, offer letters, equity, and policy matters; advise on hiring, performance, and separation matters across a growing team; help build a legally sound, people-first employee experience
What we’re looking for
- 8-12 years of legal experience, with a mix of top-tier law firm training and in-house experience at a high-growth technology company
- Healthcare Compliance Experience (familiarity with HIPAA, privacy, and the broader regulatory environment that health systems operate within)
- Proven track record negotiating complex enterprise contracts—MSAs, BAAs, DPAs, security addenda—with large, sophisticated counterparties; experience navigating institutional procurement processes at health systems or similarly complex organizations is a strong plus
- Experience supporting venture-backed companies through financing rounds, board governance, and corporate legal matters
- Comfortable being the only lawyer in the room—a pragmatic problem-solver, not a bottleneck; strong business judgment and the ability to give clear, actionable guidance under uncertainty
- A collaborative, low-ego operating style that earns trust across teams
Plenful perks
- Comprehensive Benefits Package: Enjoy unlimited PTO, fully covered health insurance (medical, dental, and vision), meal stipend, health & wellness stipend, 401(k) matching, and stock options
- Mission-Driven, World-Class Team: Join an exceptional group of professionals aligned around a meaningful mission and committed to making an impact
- Opportunities for Growth: Strengthen your partnership expertise through collaboration with experienced, high-performing leaders across the organization
- Flexible Hybrid Work Environment: We are a remote-first company with meaningful office presence in San Francisco and New York. R&D roles follow a hybrid model, with two days per week in our San Francisco office.
