Job Description:
Role Overview
This role involves scaling a new illustration style across the organization by directing and executing illustrations and animations for in-product use. The Art Director will collaborate with illustrators, art directors, animators, content designers, engineers, and product designers to ensure a consistent brand system. This position requires a high level of craft, strong attention to detail, and an innovative, systems-minded approach to problem-solving.
Key Responsibilities
- Synthesize product partner goals and user needs into actionable creative briefs.
- Guide the creation of high-craft, conceptually compelling illustrations and animations.
- Deeply understand and scale the in-house style guide and color palette across illustration libraries.
- Consistently evolve the in-house style guide to meet developing product needs.
- Understand how illustrations and animations are integrated into the design system and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Clearly communicate directions and their tradeoffs to cross-functional partners.
- Participate and present in team critiques, design sprints, and workshops.
- Manage multiple projects and deadlines efficiently and effectively.
Required Qualifications
- An illustration portfolio that demonstrates both direction of, and hands-on execution of, conceptual, compositional, and color skills.
- 4+ years of relevant illustration experience.
- Experience adopting in-house illustration styles.
- Proficiency with Adobe Illustrator and vector graphics.
- Familiarity with creating and exporting simple vector animations in After Effects.
- Strong communication skills with non-design partners.
- Ability to think at a high level about how all aspects of a product work together.
- Interest in upleveling workflows with internal AI tools.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with working in a product environment.
- Familiarity and comfort with Figma.
