Job Description:
Your Opportunity:
The Unit Clerk is responsible for managing the telephones and relaying information related to admissions, transfers and discharge of patients, diagnostic tests, booking appointments and consults. The incumbent will transcribe and process doctors' orders including medication orders, laboratory orders, diagnostic imaging orders, and treatment orders and ensure an adequate level of supplies and equipment are available on the unit for use by the inter-professional team.
Description:
As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Completion of a Unit Clerk Certificate program (minimum one year). At least one year of recent experience as a Unit Clerk in an Emergency Department, or a minimum of two years of experience in a medical-surgical unit. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will also be considered. Exceptional communication and organizational skills are essential for success in this role.
Preferred Qualifications:
Successful completion of a recognized course in medical terminology. Current BLS.
