About the Role

Title: Staff Writer, The Week Junior

Location: London England GB

Job Description:

If you're a skilled writer with a keen interest in what's going on in the world and a passion for communicating with children, you could be a staff writer on The Week Junior – the award-winning weekly current affairs magazine for 8 to 14-year-olds – and its sibling The Week Junior Science+Nature, which is published every four weeks.

What you'll be doing

Reporting to the Editor, you'll be working across both magazines, researching and writing on a range of topics every day. These could be anything from a story about Iran and the Strait of Hormuz to a debate about whether aliens exist or a face-to-face interview with a famous children's author or illustrator.

You'll attend a weekly news conference, where you'll pitch your own ideas for the events and subjects we should be covering, and you'll support the editors with their day-to-day responsibilities. You'll also be pitching future features, coming up with ideas for special editions and spin-offs, representing the brand at events, contributing to our podcasts and getting to know our readers.

Experience that will put you ahead of the curve

  • A qualification in journalism
  • Experience using InDesign
  • Experience writing for a high-frequency print publication
  • Experience in writing for social media
  • Experience contributing to podcasts and/or other broadcast media

What's in it for you

The expected salary for this role is £29,000.

This is a Hybrid role from our London Office, working 3 days from the office, 2 from home

… Plus more great perks, which include;

  • Uncapped leave, because we trust you to manage your workload and time
  • When we hit our targets, enjoy a share of our profits with a bonus
  • Refer a friend and get rewarded when they join Future
  • Well-being support with access to our Colleague Assistant Programmes
  • Opportunity to purchase shares in Future, with our Share Incentive Plan
