Job Summary
Summary
Under the direction of the Patient Experience Operations Manager, the Spanish Interpreter provides medical interpretation for clinical and non-clinical encounters to enable communication between patients and families who are limited English proficient and/or hearing impaired and clinicians and other hospital staff. Interpretation will be provided in person or by telephone in compliance with National Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics, Brigham and Women's Hospital policies and procedures, and Interpreter Services guidelines to ensure patient safety and access to quality care.

- Responsible for answering requests effectively and in a timely manner for face to face or telephone interpretations for all types of encounters throughout the hospital with priority given to emergency and urgent requests.

Qualifications
Education
High School Diploma or Equivalent required and Associate's Degree preferred

Licenses and Credentials
Experience
Fluency in English and Spanish, both written and verbal, required
Prior training of medical terminology and interpreting skills preferred
Two years of healthcare related experience in a position of direct patient contact preferred
Knowledge of culture-specific care.
