About the Role

Senior Quality Engineer (9 Month Fixed term Contract)

Location: Sydney

Job Description:

Build automation that gives teams confidence to move faster, strengthening quality across the customer journeys that matter most.

  • Bring strong hands on coding and automation experience across API and web testing, CI/CD and modern quality engineering practices.
  • Work flexibly in a hybrid model, with a minimum of 2 days each week in our Sydney office.

Write your story with a career at Zip

Join Zip’s Technology function, responsible for building and maintaining seamless, secure and sustainable platforms that enable customers to shop with confidence and merchant partners to grow their brands.

As a Senior Quality Engineer you’ll play a hands on role supporting priority product and engineering initiatives over a 9 month fixed term contract.

You’ll build reliable, scalable automation across API, web, mobile and integration layers, while helping our engineering teams strengthen their ownership of quality. You’ll have the opportunity to improve how quality is embedded into delivery, introduce reusable approaches and explore how AI assisted engineering practices can help us work smarter.

What you’ll own

  • Design, build and maintain scalable automated testing across API, web, mobile and integration layers.
  • Lead quality engineering for priority initiatives, bringing together risk assessment, test strategy, automation and release readiness.
  • Embed automated testing, quality gates and useful feedback into CI/CD pipelines to help teams release with confidence.
  • Improve automation coverage across critical customer journeys, with a focus on reliability, maintainability and stronger diagnostics.
  • Partner closely with software engineers to identify high value quality and coverage gaps and build practical solutions to address them.
  • Explore AI assisted and agentic approaches that can improve test design, automation, analysis and engineering productivity.
  • Create reusable frameworks, patterns and tooling that enable sustainable quality practices rather than ongoing manual testing dependencies.
  • Coach and pair with engineers to strengthen engineering ownership of quality.
  • Communicate quality risks, trade offs and delivery readiness clearly with engineering and product stakeholders.

What you'll bring to the team

Zipsters work on a broad range of initiatives, and our skills and experiences all look a little different. What really matters to us is that you’re a great fit with our four Values, and have a desire to learn and grow.
So whether you meet some or all of the desirable attributes below, we’d still love to hear from you:

  • Strong experience in Quality Engineering, Software Engineering or a closely related engineering role.
  • Strong hands on coding and test automation capability, including experience building and maintaining API, service and web automation.
  • Experience embedding automated testing into CI/CD pipelines and using quality gates and feedback to improve release confidence.
  • A strong understanding of modern quality engineering practices, including risk based testing, testability and building maintainable automation.
  • The ability to work independently across multiple engineering teams, navigate ambiguity and apply sound judgement as a Senior Engineer.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder skills, with the ability to make quality risks and technical trade offs clear.
  • Experience with mobile automation, automation frameworks at scale, observability or production diagnostics would be valuable.
  • Practical experience using generative AI, coding assistants or agentic workflows within software engineering would be welcomed.
  • Experience in fintech or another highly regulated environment would be useful, but is not essential.
  • A mindset that embraces AI and new tools to adapt, learn and grow.
  • An aptitude for identifying and managing risks. Whether you are a People Manager or an Individual Contributor, we are all leaders at Zip, therefore effective risk management is important to how we run our business and part of all our roles.
  • Our values in your DNA: Customer First, Own It, Stronger Together and Change the Game

What you’ll get in return

As we write this next exciting chapter in our story, we will continue to move at pace and embrace change. For you, this might mean opportunities to learn new skills with hands-on experience, broader responsibilities, or the buzz of seeing your work impact customers faster.

Zip is a place where you’ll get out exactly what you put in. When you join the team, we'll do our best to make sure you can be yourself and surround yourself with smart, friendly colleagues and leaders who have your back, so that you can make the big things happen.

Zipsters tell us these are just some of the best things about working here. You’ll also receive:

  • 25 days paid leave annually, including birthday leave and quarterly wellbeing days
  • 16 weeks paid parental leave for primary carers, and 4 weeks for supporting carers
  • Family support policies including miscarriage bereavement leave and domestic violence leave
  • Mental health and wellness initiatives, including $299 annual wellbeing allowance, free access for you and family members to our EAP service Sonder, discounted private health insurance, and great rates on fitness sessions through ClassPass
  • 2 days paid volunteering leave per year
  • Access to the Flare Benefits Hub and Novated Leasing for savings across lifestyle, essentials and wellbeing
  • Fee-free Zip products, and discounts with Zip merchant partners
  • Team social events, epic offices, free breakfast daily, and weekly free lunches
