Job Description:
The opportunity
Unity powers the majority of the best mobile games and forms the foundation of real-time 3D experiences in almost every country in the world. When studios and developers choose how to build, launch, and monetize their products, they generally turn to Unity. The tools we design shape the creative possibilities for the entire industry.
At Unity, product marketing covers the engine used by developers, the services that allow them to launch and operate games in production, the ecosystem of tools and partners that surrounds them, and the AI features that are now integrated into all of these elements. Each of these areas is aimed at a technical audience that carefully scrutinizes claims and has little tolerance for marketing promises that exceed the product's actual capabilities.
We are seeking a seasoned product marketing specialist to take ownership of a defined set of product marketing activities on a contract basis. You will be responsible for a product area or a set of launches, managing the end-to-end marketing and producing release-ready deliverables. This role is for someone who can quickly grasp a limited context, ask the right questions promptly, and begin producing positioning, launch plans, and supporting materials without waiting for detailed instructions.
Scope of the mandate
- Duration: Initial one-year term, with the possibility of extension depending on the company's needs.
- Location: This position is entirely remote or located near one of our many main offices, including New York, San Francisco, Mountain View, or Montreal. We require significant overlap with US time zone working hours, as product and marketing evaluations are conducted according to this schedule.
- Commitment: Hours equivalent to a full-time job for the entire duration of the mandate.
Your responsibilities
- Positioning and narrative framework — Define the positioning and messaging of the product areas under your responsibility. Transform technical capabilities into clear advantages for working methods and write the narrative framework that will support the Sales, Community, and Content teams.
- Execution of the go-to-market strategy — Lead the go-to-market strategy for launches, beta versions, and feature rollouts: launch levels, audience targeting, distribution plan, team preparation, and launch-day execution. Then, conduct an objective evaluation of the results.
- Defining target audiences — Accurately determine who a product is aimed at, from independent creators to technical directors, and document this information clearly enough to allow other teams to act without having to reinterpret it.
- Credibility with developers — Developers are naturally skeptical of marketing claims, especially those concerning AI. Write messages that inspire confidence in professionals rather than exaggerating product capabilities. Collaborate with the Community and Developer Relations teams to participate in spaces where real discussions take place.
- Competitive and commercial intelligence — Monitoring developments in the relevant market and transforming these changes into precise positioning and directly usable sales materials.
- Voice of the customer — Extracting relevant insights from community threads, interviews, and feedback that product and marketing teams can actually use.
- Support and Content — Provide Sales, Customer Success, and Support teams with sales presentations, competitive benchmarks, and objection responses. Collaborate with the Content Marketing team to create launch resources and developer content.
- Partnership and ecosystem marketing — When an initiative uses third-party tools or platform partners, lead the joint go-to-market and collaborative marketing strategy.
- Measuring results — Collaborate with the Product and Data Analytics teams to define success criteria for each launch in advance, and then report on the results achieved.
Desired profile
- Possess seven to nine years of experience in product marketing or in commercial-related roles, with achievements demonstrating end-to-end management of a product line or major launch.
- Mastering game production — Possessing experience in the game industry or a thorough understanding of modern development pipelines and creators' working methods is highly valued.
- Possess a proven track record of marketing to technical audiences, such as developers, software developers or technical artists, and the credibility to convince naturally skeptical users.
- Demonstrate exceptional writing skills. Know how to transform complex technology into a clear and concise narrative, whether for a launch page, a main presentation section, a competitive comparison sheet, or a Slack discussion thread with developers.
- Working independently — Contractual assignments offer less context and structure than a permanent position. You must be able to quickly familiarize yourself with the environment, advance work with teams you have just met, and produce completed deliverables rather than waiting for instructions.
- Being very comfortable with ambiguity, especially when it comes to early-stage products whose strategy is still evolving and whose roadmap may change during implementation.
- Possess strong data analysis skills. Know how to define the right indicators, objectively interpret results, and adjust the approach based on the evidence.
- Mastering AI tools like Claude Code, Gemini or comparable tools, and knowing how to use them effectively to accelerate work while rigorously verifying the results produced.
Strengths
- Marketing of platforms and ecosystems — Experience in marketing platforms for developers, game engines, software development kits or plug-in ecosystems.
- Direct experience with AI or machine learning products, as well as the technical judgment needed to distinguish a production-ready feature from a compelling demo.
- Practical creation experience — Having launched a product created with Unity or a comparable real-time authoring tool.
- Collaborative marketing with partners — Proven experience in managing joint marketing strategies with major technology partners.
- Category creation — Experience of supporting a product during a market evolution and raising user awareness of a new way of working.
- Previous experience as a contractor or consultant within a large matrix organization, with the ability to achieve results without formal authority.
The opportunity
Unity powers the majority of top mobile games and underpins real-time 3D experiences in nearly every country on earth. When studios and developers decide how to build, ship, and monetize, Unity is usually what they choose. The tools we build shape what the entire industry can make.
Product marketing at Unity spans the engine developers build in, the services they use to ship and operate live games, the ecosystem of tools and partners around them, and the AI capabilities now being built into all of it. Each of those reaches a technical audience that evaluates claims carefully and has little patience for marketing that outruns the product.
We are looking for an experienced product marketer to take on a defined body of that work on a contract basis. You will pick up a product area or a set of launches, own the marketing for it end to end, and produce work that ships. This is a role for someone who can arrive with limited context, ask the right questions quickly, and start producing positioning, launch plans and enablement material without waiting to be told how.
Scope of the engagement
- Duration: initial engagement of 1yr, with the possibility of extension based on business need.
- Location: fully remote or near one of our many hub locations: NYC, SF, MTV, MTL, etc. We ask for meaningful working-hour overlap with US time zones, since product and marketing reviews run on that clock.
- Commitment: full-time equivalent hours for the duration of the engagement.
What you'll be doing
- Positioning and narrative — Own the positioning and messaging for the product areas assigned to you. Translate technical capability into obvious workflow value, and write the narrative that Sales, Community and Content all work from.
- Go-to-market execution — Lead go-to-market for launches, betas and feature rollouts: tiering, audience targeting, channel plan, enablement and launch-day execution, followed by an honest read on what worked.
- Audience definition — Define precisely who a product is for, from indie creators to technical directors, and document it clearly enough that other teams can act on it without reinterpreting it.
- Developer credibility — Developers are inherently skeptical of marketing claims, and increasingly so of AI claims. Write messaging that earns credibility with practitioners rather than hyping past them, working with Community and DevRel to meet developers where the real discussions happen.
- Competitive and market intelligence — Track the relevant landscape and turn market shifts into sharp positioning and usable sales material.
- Voice of the customer — Turn forum threads, interviews and community feedback into signal that product and marketing teams can actually use.
- Enablement and content — Equip Sales, Success and Support with pitch decks, battlecards and objection handling. Partner with Content marketing on launch assets and developer-facing material.
- Partner and ecosystem marketing — Where an initiative involves third-party tools or platform partners, drive the joint go-to-market and co-marketing motion.
- Measurement — Work with Product and Analytics to define what success looks like for each launch in advance, and report against it afterwards.
What we're looking for
- 7-9 years in product marketing or go-to-market roles, with a clear track record of owning a product line or a major launch end to end.
- Game production fluency — a background in games, or a deep grasp of modern development pipelines and creator workflows. Strongly preferred.
- Proven experience marketing to technical audiences such as developers, engineers or technical artists, and the credibility to win over users whose default posture is skepticism.
- Exceptional writing. You can turn complex technology into a crisp, obvious narrative across a launch page, a keynote section, a battlecard or a Slack thread with engineers.
- Independent operator. Contract engagements come with less context and less standing than a permanent role. You need to be comfortable getting yourself oriented, driving work forward across teams you have just met, and producing finished artifacts rather than waiting for direction.
- High comfort with ambiguity, including early-stage products where the strategy is still moving and the roadmap shifts underneath you.
- Strong data literacy. You can set the right metrics, read performance signals honestly, and change course on evidence.
- Strong with AI tools such as Claude Code, Gemini or similar, and a practical sense of how to use them to move faster without letting the output go out unchecked.
Nice to have
- Platform and ecosystem go-to-market — experience marketing developer platforms, game engines, SDKs or plugin ecosystems.
- Direct experience with AI or ML products, and the technical judgment to tell a production-ready capability from a good demo.
- Hands-on creation experience — you have shipped something in Unity or a comparable real-time creation tool.
- Partner co-marketing — a track record running joint go-to-market motions with major technology partners.
- Category creation — experience taking a product through a market shift and educating users on a new way of working.
- Prior contract or consulting experience inside a large matrixed organisation, where you have had to be effective without formal authority.
