Job Description:

Slater and Gordon Lawyers are a leading personal injury and class actions law firm where every member of our team has a shared passion for our clients: we are people caring for people.

Our commitment to our people includes offering genuine work-life balance, with a hybrid work environment allowing them to split their time between home and the office. We recognise and reward high performance and have outstanding employee benefits including a week of shutdown leave, paid parental leave, extra-long service leave, together with various ongoing learning and professional development opportunities.

What are we looking for?

As a Senior Associate, you'll take ownership of a complex and rewarding caseload while delivering exceptional legal advice and outcomes for clients. Working closely with your Practice Group Leader, you'll play a key role in leading matters from strategy through to resolution, mentoring junior lawyers and contributing to the ongoing success and growth of the practice. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced lawyer looking to further develop their leadership capability while making a meaningful impact for clients.

  • Manage a complex caseload, providing strategic legal advice and achieving high-quality outcomes for clients.
  • Develop and implement legal strategies, confidently advising clients on likely outcomes and managing expectations throughout their matter.
  • Prepare, review and oversee complex legal documentation while ensuring compliance with National Practice Standards and Practice Management requirements.
  • Supervise, mentor and coach junior lawyers and legal support staff, fostering technical capability and professional development.
  • Conduct file reviews and provide technical guidance to ensure quality, consistency and best practice across the team.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships while managing a high volume of new and existing matters.
  • Support business development initiatives by strengthening client relationships, identifying new opportunities and promoting the firm's services.
  • Effectively manage billing, settlements, disbursements and debtor management to meet working capital targets.
  • Provide clear advice to clients regarding Fair Go Funding and respond to client queries with confidence and empathy.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including counsel, medical professionals, unions and litigation funders, to achieve the best possible client outcomes.

What will you bring?

  • Significant post-admission experience as a lawyer, with demonstrated expertise managing complex legal matters.
  • Strong technical legal knowledge and the ability to independently manage matters from commencement through to resolution.
  • Proven ability to mentor, supervise and develop junior lawyers and legal support staff.
  • Excellent client relationship management skills, with the ability to communicate complex legal issues clearly and confidently.
  • Demonstrated experience developing legal strategies, exercising sound judgement and making decisions under pressure.
  • Strong understanding of legal practice management, including compliance, costs management, billing and risk management.
  • Commercial awareness with experience contributing to business development and growing client relationships.
  • Highly organised with exceptional time management skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • A collaborative approach, with the ability to build effective relationships across teams and with external stakeholders.
  • A current Australian practising certificate and unrestricted right to practise in Australia.
