As a Probation Assistant (PA) you will:
- Collaborate with Nevada County Superior Court and other law enforcement and justice partners.
- Assist Deputy Probation Officers in investigating, supervising and counseling adult and juvenile probationers to ensure adherence to court-ordered conditions of probation.
- Assist in recommending sentencing to the Courts and providing for the rehabilitation of probationers.

Probation Assistant I is the preparative class of the series. Initially, under close supervision, incumbents learn and perform duties of increasing complexity.
Probation Assistant II is the advanced journey level in the class series. Incumbents are fully qualified to autonomously perform the full range of duties and exercise considerable independent judgment in helping provide supervision and counseling to a caseload of probationers, conducting pre-court investigations, and recommending sentencing to the Courts.

Education and Experience Required
Probation Assistant I:
Equivalent to 30 college units from an accredited college or university with coursework in psychology, sociology or related field or one year work experience in social services, criminal justice, or related field.
Probation Assistant II:
One year of experience working with juvenile or adult offenders and an Associate of Arts degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in social sciences, criminal justice or related fields; or 60 college units from an accredited college or university with coursework in psychology, sociology, criminal justice, social work or other behavioral science.
