Position Summary

The Patient Account Supervisor oversees the daily operations of patient account functions, including billing, collections, authorizations, and referrals. This role ensures patient encounters are accurately processed, billed in a timely manner, and managed efficiently in accordance with hospital policies and third-party payer requirements. The Patient Account Supervisor provides leadership, coaching, and support to staff while partnering with internal departments and payers to improve revenue cycle performance and support effective account resolution.

The ideal candidate will have revenue cycle experience within a large hospital or healthcare system. Strong Epic experience, including SlicerDicer, is highly preferred. Candidates should have knowledge of government payers, particularly Medicaid programs across multiple states, with Medicaid experience outside of New England considered highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and organize daily operations of the Business Office and patient account functions.
  • Monitor employee performance and complete evaluations in accordance with hospital policies and departmental requirements.
  • Ensure patient encounters contain accurate demographic information and appropriate referrals and authorizations.
  • Ensure billing processes are completed accurately, efficiently, and within required timeframes.
  • Maintain knowledge of payer rules, regulations, policies, and procedures impacting billing and collections.
  • Develop and update departmental procedures to support payer requirements and improve payment processes.
  • Partner with Information Systems, Controls, and other hospital departments to ensure revenue cycle systems meet operational needs and payer requirements.
  • Build and maintain relationships with payer representatives to support appeals, resolve billing issues, and interpret payer policies.
  • Analyze departmental performance data and provide recommendations to improve workflows and outcomes.
  • Collaborate with department leadership to identify opportunities for process improvement and enhance department performance.
  • Support overall revenue cycle operations and ensure compliance with hospital policies.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

  • Completion of two years of occupationally specific education or an Associate's degree required.
  • Area of study: Accounting, Business, or a closely related field preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience required.
  • Experience with healthcare revenue cycle operations, billing, collections, authorizations, and payer processes preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of healthcare revenue cycle operations.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve complex problems using critical thinking and cross-functional knowledge.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and team development skills.
  • Ability to identify, analyze, and resolve operational issues quickly and effectively.

Schedule:

Full-time- hybrid. 1 day onsite

The posted pay range is Boston Children's reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting.

Any base pay offer provided depends on skills, experience, education, certifications, and a variety of other job-related factors.
