Outpatient Nurse Coordinator – Comprehensive Lung Center/Allergy (Cranberry)

The UPMC Cranberry Office is seeking a dedicated and experienced nursing professional to join our outpatient clinic as an Outpatient Nurse Coordinator. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated, patient‑focused RN who is passionate about delivering exceptional outpatient care, supporting care coordination, and enhancing the overall patient experience. Hybrid Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8am-4:30pm, up to two remote workdays each week

This position includes free on-site parking.

About the Position: 

The Outpatient Nurse Coordinator is a Registered Nurse and key member of the Allergy outpatient care team, supporting providers at the Cranberry location. This role provides comprehensive coordination of patient care through independent clinical judgment and ongoing communication with patients, families, providers, pharmacies, and insurance carriers.

Responsibilities include administering biologic injections, supporting allergen immunotherapy (AIT) injections when needed, obtaining prior authorizations, managing medication refill requests, and assisting providers during allergy testing procedures. The Nurse Coordinator serves as a liaison between patients and providers, ensuring timely access to treatment, education, and follow-up care. This position advocates for patients, promotes high-quality outcomes, and demonstrates a strong commitment to exemplary patient care and the nursing profession.

Responsibilities:

• Engage in ongoing professional development and participate in shared governance and quality initiatives.
• Provide leadership within the practice, supporting nursing and support staff and maintaining a safe, effective care environment.
• Deliver holistic, patient‑centered care, including triage, care coordination, education, and follow‑up.
• Serve as primary nursing resource and liaison for patient caseload, coordinating with physicians and external services.
• Build positive, collaborative relationships with patients, families, and all care team members.
• Demonstrate strong critical thinking, clinical judgment, communication, and documentation skills.
• Support department operations, safety, regulatory preparation, and practice improvements.
• Educate patients, families, students, and new staff; may precept and assist with staff development.
• Promote a compassionate, patient‑focused experience and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.

Qualifications:

• Minimum 3 years nursing experience. BSN preferred.
• The individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately to the ages of the patients served by his/her assigned unit as specified below. 
• They must also demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patients status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patients requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care needs as described in the department policy and procedures.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

• Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in practicing state.
• UPMC approved national certification preferred.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) within 30 days of hire
• Registered Nurse (RN)

*Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
