Key Responsibilities
Ensure that clinical services are accurately captured, coded, and billed within the Oracle Health/Cerner system so healthcare organizations receive proper reimbursement and remain compliant.
1. Charge Capture & Workflow Management
-
Configure and maintain charge capture processes in Cerner Millennium
-
Ensure charges flow correctly from clinical documentation to billing
-
Troubleshoot missing or incorrect charges
2. System Configuration (Cerner Tools)
-
Build and maintain:
-
Charge Description Master (CDM)
-
Charge codes, modifiers, and mappings
-
PowerPlans, order sets, and clinical documentation tools tied to charges
-

Use Cerner tools like:
-
Charge Services tools
-
Discern Explorer (for queries)
-
Millennium applications
-
3. Revenue Cycle Support
-
Collaborate with billing, coding, and finance teams
-
Ensure alignment between clinical workflows and billing requirements
-
Support charge reconciliation and audits
4. Issue Resolution & Troubleshooting
-
Investigate charge discrepancies or revenue leakage
-
Analyze root causes (workflow, configuration, or user error)
-
Fix system issues or recommend process improvements
5. Compliance & Optimization
-
Ensure adherence to:
-
CMS regulations
-
HIPAA guidelines
-
Organizational billing policies
-

Identify opportunities to improve charge accuracy and efficiency
6. Reporting & Data Analysis
-
Run reports to track:
-
Charge capture rates
-
Missed charges
-
Revenue trends
-
-
Use SQL/Discern for deeper analysis
Required Skills & Qualifications
Technical
-
Experience with Oracle Health/Cerner Millennium
-
Understanding of:

Charge Services module
-
Revenue cycle workflows
-

SQL or Discern Explorer (often preferred)
Functional Knowledge

Healthcare billing and coding basics (CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS)

Charge Description Master (CDM) structure

Clinical workflows (nursing, lab, pharmacy, etc.)
Hourly range: $50-$65. The hourly range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skills, experience, training, licensure and certifications, practice area, and other business and organizational needs.
