About the Role
We Are Hiring: Medical Interpreter - Waukesha Memorial - 0.55 FTE, Days

Schedule Details: Regular Part Time, 8:00am-12:00pm
What You Will Do:
Conducts medical and general interpreting for staff, patients and their families. Assesses and monitors patients' understanding of information conveyed. Records and monitors interpretation activities according to hospital and department standards. May be required to translate written documents. Perform a variety of interpretation and coordination services to assist non-English speaking patients, the deaf and hearing-impaired patients receiving care within the ProHealth Care system.
Responsibilities:
- Facilitates communication between patient, family members, doctors and nursing staff. Participates as a neutral, non judgemental party in the role as a conduit of information.
- Communicates everything that is said by all people in the interaction, without omitting, adding, condensing or changing.
- Transmits the message in thorough manner, giving consideration to linguistic variations in both languages and conveying the tone and spirit of the original message.
- Explains cultural differences or practices to health care providers and clients when appropriate.
- Coordinates services for the deaf, hard of hearing and those requiring non-Spanish interpretations.
- Assists in staff educational programs in conjunction with other hospital departments, focusing on cultural and language barriers in the workplace.
- Develops a relationship of trust and respect at all times with the client by adopting a caring, attentive, yet discreet and impartial attitude toward the patient, toward his/her questions and needs.
- Maintains accurate daily records on all requests for services as well as provision of services.
Requirements:
- Ability to write and speak English and Spanish.
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Technical Diploma for Medical Interpreter, from an accredited institution preferred
