Marketing Assistant, Strategic Development (Hybrid)

Job Description:

We are looking for a Marketing Assistant to join the Random House Children’s Books Marketing team to assist in the development and execution of marketing materials and campaigns across the children’s book list. Random House Children’s Books is home to bestselling and award-winning authors and illustrators from Suzanne and Max Lang (creators of the Grumpy Monkey series) and R. J. Palacio (author of Wonder) to Nic Stone (author of Dear Martin), Karen McManus (One of Us Is Lying) Holly Jackson (A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder), Christopher Paolini (The Inheritance Cycle) and more, as well as classic brands like Dr. Seuss and Richard Scarry and licensed publishing in partnership with licensors including Disney and Nickelodeon.  

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Marketing Assistant will provide operational and administrative support to the Marketing team, ensuring smooth creation and execution of marketing programs, asset coordination, and internal communications. This role will have the opportunity to work closely with the entire Marketing team, including the Trade and Brand groups, School and Library Marketing, Audience Engagement, Marketing Design, and Outbound Licensing as well as with Publicity, Sales, Production, and Editorial.  

Specific responsibilities include: 

  • Develop and maintain marketing planning grid seasonally, managing regular updates and changes.  
  • Create campaign documents, including plan templates, display setup forms, campaign recaps and other supporting documents. 
  • Develop and manage departmental key dates, working closely with Publishing to integrate internal marketing dates with cross-team divisional deadlines and meeting schedules. 
  • Schedule and manage seasonal Market Strategy meetings with Sales and Editorial, route key meeting materials and notes.
  • Manage printed sales materials process, in close partnership with Managing Editorial. 
  • Coordinate with the Marketing team to prepare weekly emails and materials for regular meetings. 
  • Organize departmental meetings as needed, including creation of supplemental meeting materials and note taking. 
  • Organize departmental documentation for standard operating procedures and manage updates across team.  
  • Work with sales to establish estimates and orders on displays, merchandising items, and other promotional materials.  
  • Perform administrative tasks and provide additional support to the Executive Director, SVP, and Marketing team as necessary. 

Please apply if you meet the following qualifications: 

  • Prior internship experience in marketing; book marketing internship experience is preferred 
  • Interest in working with books for young readers (books for kids ages 0-18) a must. Experience working with children’s books a plus!  
  • Highly organized with the ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with a variety of internal and external stakeholders 
  • Self-motivated worker comfortable working independently as well as with a team 
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and remain solution-oriented 
  • Willingness to learn and collaborate 

The salary for this position is $51,000.00. All positions are currently eligible for an annual profit award or bonus, subject to company results.   

This is a hybrid position with in-office responsibilities. We will consider candidates who can work from a commutable distance to our offices at 1745 Broadway, which includes the tri-state area (NJ, CT, & PA).

The salary range listed is specific to each particular open position and takes into account various factors including the specifics of the individual role, and candidate's relevant experience and qualifications.
