Job Description:
The Role
The role / impact
You will lead the modernization of our marketing data platform and drive the integration of artificial intelligence across our data products. Operating independently, you will bridge the gap between complex engineering systems and business needs, ensuring our foundational architecture supports sophisticated data science and analytics. Your focus will remain on dismantling data silos and replacing legacy frameworks with highly scalable, real-time data solutions.
Your impact will be felt globally as you collaborate with commercial stakeholders to translate business strategies into actionable, deliverable requirements. By balancing long-term architectural transformation with incremental, high-value product deliveries, you will empower teams to make confident, data-driven decisions. Ultimately, your work will directly influence how internal teams and external customers interact with our intelligence systems.
The team / how they connect
You will join a multidisciplinary team of approximately fifty specialists, including data engineers, data scientists, applied scientists, market insights professionals, and economic researchers. This collective manages the go-to-market data engineering, science, and research capabilities across Australia, New Zealand, the UK, and the US. Together, they function as a collaborative network focused on re-evaluating and modernising our data stack to deliver deep intelligence.
Initially, you will focus on:
-
Navigating and upgrading a fifteen-year-old architectural framework into a modern data ecosystem.
-
Unifying fragmented, duplicated data sources to establish a single, trusted source of truth for the business.
-
Collaborating with data engineering and applied science leads to embed artificial intelligence capabilities into frontline workflows.
-
Partnering with sales, marketing, and customer support business units to outline and deliver immediate reporting enhancements.
Where and how you can work
This position is ideally based in Melbourne to maintain close proximity to the core engineering team, though applicants located anywhere along the East Coast of Australia are welcome. We support a hybrid working model that blends remote flexibility with collaborative in-office connection. You can expect designated boost days to join colleagues in our dedicated office spaces for collaborative sessions, team activities, and workshops.
Here are some of the things we are looking for:
-
Deep technical familiarity with complex, large-scale big data systems and real-time data products.
-
A proven ability to communicate sophisticated data concepts clearly to senior leadership and non-technical stakeholders.
-
Experience operating autonomously in ambiguous environments, making confident decisions without a clear-cut path forward.
-
Skill in managing conflicting priorities from demanding business units such as marketing and sales.
-
A strong commercial mindset with a background in handling marketing or sales data portfolios.
-
Comfort partnering closely with cross-functional engineering and data science panels to assess technical feasibility.
Apply even if your experience isn't a perfect match! At Xero, we hire based on your skills, passion, and the unique perspective you can bring to enhance our culture and team.
