Job Description:

About the role
Reporting to the Comp Supervisor, the Lead Compositors set an example of quality, communication and dedication within the team and will work within the team to provide high-quality animation for a variety of projects. They lead small teams of artists, supporting the Comp Supervisor and HOD both creatively and technically.
Lead Compositors are also required to work on shots. Each artist is responsible for seamlessly integrating all the layers or elements of a shot, including live-action and computer graphic elements.
This is a hybrid role and based out of our Melbourne studio.
Relocation assistance would be provided for those not based in Melbourne, Australia.
What you'll do

Working in collaboration with the Compositing Supervisor and Visual Effects Supervisor to evaluate the creative and technical approach to assigned shots

Giving briefs and direction to the team with the aid of the VFX Supervisors in order to ensure the appropriate execution of shots

Training and mentoring of more junior artists

Integrating 2D, 3D and live action elements to high-end visual effects film standard

Meeting schedules and show deadlines

Act as the key contact for production and supervisors, ensuring clear communication, dealing with creative challenges, solutions and adapting to changes in production and scheduling

Taking responsibility for the teams' workload, time management and notes/feedback actions required by Supervisors

Balancing the creative and technical aspects of each shot

Working with a good knowledge of colour space principles

Establish workflow templates, methods of compositing and provide documentation for other artists on the team where necessary

Ensure that department tools are available for your team and properly set up for the show

Attend dailies and present the work of your team, guide artists on how to present work

Provide regular feedback to your artists and ensure quality control for the artists on the team
