CLIMATE RESEARCH INITIATIVE

Climate change is an area of focus for Wellington Management, formalized by our multi-year research partnerships with Woodwell Climate Research Center and the MIT Center for Sustainability Science and Strategy (CS3). Wellington Management’s Climate Research Team considers climate risk across several dimensions, including focus on physical climate risk, transition risks of policy and technology, and biodiversity. This effort spans investors across asset classes including equity, corporate fixed income, commodities, real estate, and municipal and sovereign bond markets.

Climate change is a defining issue of our time with future impacts that span the globe. Yet capital markets have largely underrepresented this issue. Our north star is the belief that material ESG issues, including climate change, can affect the long-term value of the assets in which we invest.Therefore, it is in our clients’ best interest for us to analyze them as part of our investment mosaic, for the benefit of our clients in preparation for a world that will become increasingly aware of climate change’s effects on economic and social systems. The objectiveof the Climate Research Team is to bridge the gap between climate science and finance to better understand the potential impact of climate variables on capital markets, identify potential asset mis-pricings, and produce financially relevantinsights.

This role will be focused on supporting this initiative and will involve working closely with the Climate Research Team and members of the Client Platform.

THE POSITION 

The Climate Research Co-op will gain exposure to the following activities:

  • Support our investors on climate integration with a lens of both physical climate change and energy transition-based risks and opportunities

  • Conduct research in areas of physical climate risks through company physical risk exposure reviews.

  • Carry out self-directed research projects whichmay include thematic research on the impacts of climate change on different parts of the financial market, gathering relevant data in advance of specific engagements with companies, and supporting the development of analytical frameworks to understand climate change impacts.

  • Attend and summarize company-wide climate research hubs with the Woodwell Climate Research Center and MIT Center for Sustainability Science and Strategy (CS3), and other climate-related meetings including company engagements, sell-side presentations, and industry groups.

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Analytical and critical-thinking skills

  • Ability to complete comprehensive research and synthesize findings

  • Coursework/experience with environmental science – preferred

  • Coursework/experience economics/finance– preferred

  • Strong work ethic and attention to detail

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong academic track record

  • At least one previous co-op experience

 

Please note:This co-op position entails cross-training to ensure optimal performance across functions. The anticipated start date for accepted candidates is December 2026/January 2027. Candidates must have prior co-op experience, as this position requires a foundational understanding of professional workplace dynamics and responsibilities.

Our approach to compensation considers all aspects of total compensation; all employees are eligible to receive salary, variable compensation, and benefits. The base salary range for this position is:

 

$19-$35 per hour

This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered when making compensation decisions, including but not limited to skill sets; role; skills and experience; certifications; and education. This range is an estimate, and further details on salary and total compensation aspects will be shared with candidates during the recruitment process.

Base salary is only one component of Wellington’s total compensation approach. Other rewards may include a discretionary Corporate Bonus and/ or Incentives, if eligible.
