Salary range: £70,000 per annum - £90,000 depending on skills and experience. 

Location: Remote / Hybrid  

Working Pattern: We operate a flexible hybrid working pattern at Occam Group, with time split between the office, client sites and working from home.

Job Description

As part of our growing business, we are seeking an established Human Factors Principal Consultant with experience of delivering Human Factors integration and associated analyses for high-hazard and safety critical national infrastructure, e.g. civil or naval nuclear, defence or rail.

This role represents an excellent opportunity for a proactive, commercially aware, and collaborative individual to play a pivotal part in the continued growth of our business. As a senior member of the team, you will not only lead major HF programmes but also help define and grow our capability, mentor developing talent, and strengthen our relationships across multiple sectors. Your contribution will be instrumental in shaping the future of a company with an outstanding reputation for high‑quality delivery and client trust.

Duties to include   

  • Lead delivery of Human Factors Integration activities to support multi-disciplinary projects, working in collaboration with other technical disciplines.
  • Lead production of Human Factors analyses and studies, liaising with Subject Matter Experts and safety professionals.
  • Lead delivery of Human Factors projects whilst mentoring junior members of the team.
  • Contributing to business development activities through client engagement, opportunity identification, bid and proposal development.
  • Liaising with Regulators as necessary.
  • Planning and managing work to meet technical, budget and programme requirements to ensure client satisfaction.
  • Collaboration with clients and partner organisations.

Requirements

Essential Requirements 

  • Relevant academic qualification in an appropriate field, i.e. Human Factors, Ergonomics, Psychology or a suitable Science or Engineering degree.
  • Demonstrable experience in a Human Factors leadership role.
  • Experience in applying Human Factors principles, standards and methods, and their role and application within high-hazard and safety critical national infrastructure programmes.
  • Experience in delivering human error and reliability assessment.
  • Strong customer focus with an ability to develop creative commercial strategies for the successful contracting of new work.
  • Ability to build trusted relationships and provide credible technical leadership to clients and project teams.
  • Ability and willingness to lead and develop others.

Desirable Requirements 

  • Chartered, Registered or working towards accreditation with a relevant body.
  • Consultancy experience.
  • SC and / or DV security clearance.
