Job Summary

The American Heart Association is seeking an Executive Director in Denver, Colorado. This position serves in a pivotal community leadership role, working with high-level executives in the Denver area and staffing the volunteer Board of Directors while encouraging volunteer engagement and development.

The Executive Director provides strategic direction and management to a team of fundraisers and support staff and holds overall responsibility for revenue goals associated with the Heart Ball, Heart Challenge, and Go Red for Women campaigns.

The position is primarily focused on driving revenue to support the Association's mission. The Executive Director will also participate in community and corporate functions that support networking, relationship development, and generation of new contacts for fundraising and mission-related initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Achieve results through strong volunteer recruitment, engagement, and management.
  • Achieve revenue and fundraising goals while holding staff and volunteers accountable.
  • Secure corporate donations by participating in and leading high-level sponsorship asks.
  • Cultivate major donors and secure large corporate sponsorships of $100,000 or more.
  • Identify and secure foundation gifts.
  • Collaborate with internal partners, including Health Strategies and Youth Market teams, to support specific cause initiatives in defined markets.
  • Staff and support the volunteer Board of Directors.
  • Encourage volunteer engagement and development.
  • Build and maintain relationships with executive-level corporate and medical volunteers.
  • Participate in community and corporate events to develop relationships and new fundraising contacts.
  • Lead and manage fundraising staff and volunteer teams.
  • Use revenue metrics and fundraising reports to monitor performance and guide decisions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Five years of successful experience in nonprofit fundraising, volunteer management, or similar experience.
  • Five years of management experience, ideally leading a sales or fundraising team in a similar organization.
  • Direct knowledge of special-event campaign fundraising tactics.
  • Experience recruiting, engaging, and activating executive-level corporate and medical volunteers.
  • Demonstrated ability to build effective teams of staff and volunteers and set and achieve aggressive goals on a sustained basis.
  • Ability to influence others to take action by creating a shared vision, sense of ownership, and personal accountability.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including large- and small-group presentations, facilitation, and training.
  • Ability to prepare clear and concise narrative reports, evaluations, and similar written communications.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and analyze revenue metrics and fundraising reports.
  • Proficiency with spreadsheet and database analysis.

Compensation and Benefits
