Within Rotary & Mission Systems, the Laser & Sensor Systems (L&SS) team develops advanced High Energy Laser (HEL) technologies that support critical missions and next-generation defense capabilities.

The Work

Lockheed Martin Rotary & Mission Systems is seeking a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to join the L&SS team.

In this role, you will contribute to the design, analysis, testing, and requirements verification of High Energy Laser systems. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to develop and validate software solutions that support advanced laser and sensor technologies.

Key responsibilities include:

Designing and developing embedded software solutions for HEL systems.

Performing software analysis, testing, and verification activities.

Supporting requirements development and validation.

Collaborating with systems, hardware, and test engineering teams.

Contributing to software lifecycle processes and engineering best practices.

Assisting with integration and troubleshooting of hardware and software components.

Desired experience includes one or more of the following:

C/C++ development.

Embedded software engineering practices.

Microcontrollers and embedded systems.

Electronic test equipment.

Graphical User Interface (GUI) development.

Please note:

This position requires onsite presence in Bothell, WA.

This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance at the Secret level.

Must be a U.S. Citizen.

Position requires access to a facility requiring special access authorization.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college in Computer Engineering or a related discipline, with 5 years of professional experience; or 3 years of professional experience with a related Masters degree.
  • Demonstrated experience writing C/C++ code
  • Embedded real-time software development
  • Experience with operation and use of standard lab equipment for test, trouble shooting, and repair
  • Must have the ability to obtain a DoD Secret Security Clearance, must be a U.S. Citizen

Desired Skills:

  • Agile Development (Scrum Master or Product Owner or Release Train Engineer experience)
  • Experience with debugging hardware and is familiar with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and Wireshark or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience in board bring up activities working closely with electrical engineers
  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting small and large scale systems across software, firmware, and hardware
  • Experience using various communication protocols including: SPI, I2C, RS-422, RS-485, CANbus, TCP/UDP
  • Experience and ability working with cross functional/multi-disciplinary teams
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment
  • Experience with GitLab CI/CD Pipelines
  • Software firmware interface development experience using across various chip suppliers
  • Strong communication and team collaboration skills
  • Experience integrating software in an embedded hardware environment

Ability to Work Remotely: Part-time Remote Telework: The employee selected for this position will work part of their work schedule remotely and part of their work schedule at a designated Lockheed Martin facility. The specific weekly schedule will be discussed during the hiring process.

Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.

Schedule for this Position: 4x10 hour day, 3 days off per week

Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in California, Massachusetts, and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington or Washington DC is $93,200 - $164,450. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate's final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.

(Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.

This position is incentive plan eligible.
