Crunchyroll is a joint venture between Sony Pictures Entertainment in the United States and Aniplex, a subsidiary of Sony Music Entertainment Inc. in Japan (both companies are part of the Sony Group Corporation, headquartered in Tokyo).

Main responsibilities

  • This role involves negotiating complex development and production projects with Japanese production committee members, including production committee agreements, co-publishing and master recording agreements for music, and merchandising licensing agreements, as well as creating term sheets.
  • We handle contract negotiations and drafting in both Japanese and English.
  • For newly acquired or domestically produced content, we will share and inform relevant internal departments such as content, legal, finance, marketing, licensing, and programming about the financial terms, contractual risks, and obligations (payments, rights restrictions, etc.).
  • We manage the contract terms for each project and update the negotiation status on our internal tracking system.
  • In an ever-changing business environment, we provide advice and support on all aspects of business based on our extensive knowledge of the entertainment industry.

Eligibility requirements:

  • Over 10 years of practical experience in licensing, production, business affairs, or legal matters within the Japanese entertainment industry.
  • Over 8 years of team management experience
  • Practical experience in drafting and negotiating co-production and licensing agreements, as well as interpreting and applying their terms.
  • Japanese: Native or business level (reading, writing, and speaking)
  • English: Must be motivated to learn and eager to improve reading, writing, and speaking skills (and positive about using English in a practical setting).
  • A deep passion for anime, Japanese culture, and the entertainment industry.

Regarding departments

The Business Affairs team is part of the Content Group, driving content acquisition that underpins Crunchyroll's global growth, and serves as the internal point of contact for all contractual terms. They work closely with diverse teams around the world—including co-production, acquisition, legal, deal management, programming, and financial contract reporting—to ensure smooth business operations.
