As a Designer, Visual Storytelling & Social, you'll help shape how journalism comes to life across platforms – creating compelling social content while also developing interactive experiences, maps, motion graphics and emerging visual storytelling formats.

This role sits at the intersection of editorial design, audience engagement and storytelling innovation. You'll translate reporting into platform-native social experiences, while also helping expand Yahoo’s editorial visual storytelling capabilities through interactive features, geographic storytelling, motion design and AI-assisted creative workflows.

Responsibilities:

Social Storytelling

• Translate Yahoo editorial reporting into engaging social content for Instagram, TikTok and emerging platforms.

• Design carousels, story sequences, explainers and visual packages optimized for audience engagement.

• Collaborate closely with the Social team on platform strategy, content planning and breaking news coverage.

• Develop and evolve Yahoo News and Entertainment’s social visual identity and recurring editorial franchises.

• Create scalable templates, toolkits and workflows that support quality content production.

Visual Storytelling & Innovation

• Design interactive editorial experiences using tools such as Ceros and other storytelling platforms.

• Create map-based storytelling experiences using Mapbox and related tools.

• Design graphics and animations that support short-form video storytelling across multiple platforms.

• Explore AI-assisted creative workflows and emerging storytelling technologies.

• Experiment with new approaches to content creation, prototyping and audience engagement while maintaining editorial standards and visual quality.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of applicable design and illustration experience.

• Strong portfolio demonstrating design and illustration skills with clear examples of social content, data visualization or interactive editorial work.

• Experience designing for social platforms, particularly Instagram and TikTok.

• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and Canva.

• Familiarity with Ceros, Mapbox, AI-powered creative tools or similar platforms.

• Strong communication and collaboration skills in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.

• Passion for journalism, visual storytelling and emerging media formats.

The compensation for this position ranges from $96,000.00 - $200,000.00/yr and will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills and experience.The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions.
