Job Description

POSITION OBJECTIVE

Working closely with leadership and collaborating cross-functionally, the Data Analyst utilizes applied statistics and business analysis to create data set and conduct analyses for system monitoring and change, ensuring absolute data integrity and transparency in all work. This position supports data-informed decision-making by executing monthly and ad hoc reporting while contributing to reproducible predictive modeling and data optimization projects. Additionally, the analyst assists with process mapping, workflow automation, and the pilot integration of AI utilities to transition manual tasks into streamlined, data-lake-supported dashboards built on clear, verifiable data logic. The analyst will utilize a strong quantitative foundation, an eagerness to learn advanced analytics, and a rigorous commitment to maintaining strict data accuracy and auditable transparency across institutional reporting.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Build, clean, and prepare foundational datasets while executing routine monthly and ad hoc data analyses tracking key research administration metrics. Ensure strict data integrity, reproducibility, and auditable transparency by utilizing statistical programming languages--such as R, SAS, or Stata--for script-based data retrieval and version-controlled data preparation rather than manual manipulation. Leverage modern software and AI diagnostic tools to systematically format datasets, clear anomalies, and compile standard summaries, charts, or dashboard inputs for internal stakeholders and external reporting (such as the HERD survey). (65%)
  • Assist leadership and project teams by helping document, process map, and review operational workflows to uncover administrative bottlenecks. Support the practical deployment of basic workflow automation tools and AI utilities (such as Power Automate, Excel macros, or foundational scripts) to eliminate repetitive, manual data-entry tasks and optimize day-to-day operational efficiency. (30%)

NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Perform other duties as assigned. (5%)

CONTACTS

Department: Daily contact with the Senior Director and regular contact with other team members in the Office of Research and Technology Management to receive assignments and deliver reports.

University: Regular contact with UTech, administrative staff, and finance partners across management centers to clarify data elements and coordinate workflows.

External: Occasional contact vendors or external technical support representatives.

Students: Occasional contact with student workers as required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

No supervisory responsibility.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: 1 year of professional experience in a related field involving data handling, business operations, or administrative support. Experience in a higher education setting is not required; transferable analytical skills from corporate, non-profit, or other industry backgrounds are welcome.

Education: Bachelors degree required (degree in Business Analytics, Information Systems, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field are preferred).

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Foundational data analytics and problem-solving skills, with the ability to look at data, recognize patterns, and summarize findings accurately.
  • Basic familiarity with process mapping concepts and tools (e.g., Lucidchart, Visio, or similar workflow drawing tools).
  • Technical proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (specifically advanced Excel functions like VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables, and basic formulas); exposure to or a strong desire to learn SQL, Power BI, or workflow automation platforms (e.g., Power Automate) is highly desirable.
  • Strong written, verbal, and face-to-face interpersonal skills to build relationships, deliver excellent customer service, and explain complex information to faculty, staff, and external partners.
  • Strong desire to learn and work with AI to improve process and administrative efficiency.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality, meet consistent attendance requirements, and interact face-to-face with colleagues and supervisors.
  • Ability to work independently and handle sensitive operational data with a high degree of discretion and confidentiality.
  • Prefer working knowledge of relational databases.

WORKING CONDITIONS

General office working environment.

Hybrid Eligibility
