Job Description:

We're looking for a Cybersecurity Engineer to help design, build, and operate the security systems that protect our organization's networks, systems, and data. This role is hands-on and engineering-focused-you'll be responsible for implementing and improving real security controls, not just monitoring alerts. You'll work closely with cybersecurity operations, infrastructure teams, and business partners to ensure security is built into our technology from the ground up. If you enjoy solving complex technical problems, improving security at scale, and working in a collaborative environment, this role is for you. MDUR employees are responsible for placing safety as #1 priority in day-to-day work routine for self and others.

This position is located in Bismarck, ND (Hybrid/Remote eligible based on role needs)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Requires knowledge of systems administration, programming, networking and security at a level normally acquired through the completion of a four-year degree in computer science, information technology (IT) or related field.

  • Six years' experience implementing, supporting and managing Cyber Security Controls to support a Corporate Security Framework and Strategy.

Key Skills

  • Strong understanding of:

  • Network, endpoint, and cloud security concepts.

  • Security monitoring and incident response.

  • System and network architecture.

  • Ability to troubleshoot complex technical problems and stay effective during high-impact incidents.

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical topics to non-technical partners.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Must take all measures necessary to protect networks, devices, programs and data from cyber-attack, damage or unauthorized access.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States, no sponsorships considered.
  • May be required to maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Subject to pre-employment drug testing and background checks.
  • Requires minimal (up to 10%) travel.
  • May be required to work evenings and weekends.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working with enterprise security tools such as EDR, SIEM, firewalls, or cloud security platforms.
  • Industry certifications such as Security+, CISSP, or similar (or willingness to obtain).

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design, build, configure, and maintain cybersecurity technologies across endpoint, network, cloud, and identity platforms.

  • Evaluate new and existing technologies, including artificial intelligence and automation, for feasibility and security impact.

  • Ensure systems are designed with security, reliability, and resiliency in mind.

  • Build and improve automated and repeatable security solutions.

  • Support and collaborate with the cybersecurity operations team on escalated issues.

  • Help improve detection, response, and recovery capabilities based on real-world incidents.

  • Assess security risks related to system changes and new technologies.

  • Help ensure security controls align with industry frameworks and organizational risk tolerance.

  • Partner with IT, application, and business teams to embed security into projects and daily operations.

  • Lead or contribute to security projects and technology implementations.

  • Work with vendors and internal teams to evaluate and deploy security solutions.

  • Performs other tasks and special projects as assigned.
